People seem to only bet on major events: MLB, NFL (when it comes), boxing...I tried NASCAR but the interest is surprisingly not there...

difficult to reach an "official" decision
I could handicap such events quite well
creating mostly equal action on each side

e.g. "resolving the situation in Iraq,favorable to the US"
give me a time frame,and I'll set some good odds
but who would be the judge?
