emergency discussion on what you americans wear when you visit other countries

nycgirl said:
I'm sure you have seen something similar in D.C. The FBI/CIA t-shirt w/ denim/khaki/cream color shorts & sneakers. The husband and wife are wearing the same outfit; you can't tell the difference from behind.

When I travel, I dress the same: high heel shoes/boots (which are great when walking down cobble streets  ), bootcut jeans, really cool/funky jewerly and a tight top. If I'm at the beach, I wear flip-flops or wedge sandals. I only wear sneakers to the gym.
i have 4 pairs of shoes.

sneakers, sandals, dress shoes, winter boots.

and im like bart...i have 5 pairs of the same exact shorts...khaki cargo shorts

That's funny, because I've never seen a fucking American wear such stupid shit unless they are 80 years old.. Quit trying to join the crowd.. Europeans dress more awkward than Americans. American males don't wear 3/4 leg pants and think they look cool. Quit with the bitching and get on with it.. It's that way in every country.. for any type of tourist..
lol +1 for the bad guys

WTF..join the crowd ? what crowd. im answering the fucking question! and you think im lyeing i sware to god that because my home town st andrews, is the home of golf, and there is like a massive graveyard built on a massive church. ( this town has a lot of history ) i see the americans either dressed in cream shorts with socks pulled up to their knees. or ... get this they try and fit in buy wearing a KILT... LMAO just cause these yankies watch braveheart they think everyone still lives in mut huts and wears kilts ! think im still lying, i have X-box live and i was playing someone from NY, and he said where you from, when i said scotland he laughed and said what you guys have X-box's ?and i have said this tons of times on E/F that usa and britian, have a special bond. so dont try and turn this into a euro vs usa thing cause its a fucking sunday and its hot.

I was simply saying that you are STEREOTYPING.. not every damn American is like that. Go to america.. and tell me how many people you walk down the street and see wearing cream pants with socks pulled up to their knees.. better yet.. People your age.. go to a college and see what you think.. They dress the same way you do. Act the same way you do.. just talk a little different.. That's what I'm bitching about.. Second of all.. I'm not turning it into a Euro vs USA thing.. Because bud.. I travel, I conform to the culture that i'm in.. I spent 3 months over here studying French.. and two more months of my life traveling around over here. Coming by december I will have takin my 4th European Language... and personally I love Europe and would love to live and work over here.

Who cares about Xbox.. I'm sure theres dumbasses in Scotland too that are oblivious to whats going on in the world. You act like I'm so proud of this and saying Americans shit doesn't stink. Are you kidding me.. It's far from that and I'll be one of the first to say it. So what.. How many americans have you met in person... Seen with your own eyes.. Had a actually sit down conversation with. I bet it's quite a small percentage to the actual population of the States. So how can you assume you know so much??? Your stereotyping everything.. and that's what everyone does with Americans and Americans do with other people, anyone in a foreign country.. You just prooved my point.. Your saying that they buy kilts.. ok.. but by you saying that they wear cream pants and high socks, your saying that most Americans have no style or can't dress properly or want to buy kilts when they visit Scotland. Hell maybe I should go out and buy a pair of Speedo's, grab me a Baret and a Baguette.. and then damnit.. I might just fit in here in France.. or maybe some 3/4's leg pants.. No that's their culture.. You have your culture.. I respect other's cultures..

I get sick of it, trying to travel around.. Realize that there are differant people out there besides just some dumbass loser tourists that you see.. You probably see Americans more than you think and not realize it, because they don't profile under your stereotype.. If I walked in front of you, you would have no clue, unless you assume, because I am built and bigger. I have told people I'm from every country over here, and people have no clue. Your post proved nothing. You think that everyone in the states thinks all the scottish wear kilts, your wrong.. I did have some respect for you on this board.. Thought you seemed like a cool guy. I get along with pretty much everyone actually... From anywhere.. Hell I even have a friend over here that's from Iraq. But shit son.. All you just proved to me with your post, was that you're one of those typical people who justify their lack of knowledge for what everything is really like in the world... with stereotyping.

That's different. You're a teenager. Once a man/woman leaves college, dressing like that should cease. They shouldn't lose their sense of fashion when they hit 40 or even 30. I understand wanting to be comfortable, but there are limits.

Unless he is at the gym, running errands,at the beach, or an amusement park, a man should not wear shorts.

my parents get pissed if i wear shorts when they take me to dinner, and in italy, they refused to let me go eat with em if i wasnt wearing long pants at dinner

anyway, you arent supposed to spend time with good looking members of the opposite sex for mere bragging rights, imo it should be the opposite. if you hear me talking about something, generally, it means nothing happened. :)

dude, you are taking everything i am saying to far, like im telling you about some shit then you go ahead and say stuff im stereotyping? i have 1000+ posts and because of one post that u dissagree , you now say "you seemed like a cool guy." WTF seems like stereotyping to me. and you do make a good point. but on friday in a bar i was speaking to an american student. ok he dressed like me. and i told him what i have just told you, and he laughed and said yeah thats pritty much us all over, but we aint all that bad, he even said that alot of people think scottish people are big butch ginger people with names like Hammish, or Doggle. and yeah i am younge and pritty fucking stupid. but if he could take what i said as a joke and see the funny side, why do you take a fit when i mention it ? im sorry if i offended you dude, i too try and get on with as many people as i can. but shit im intitled to my opinion.
"what you americans wear when you visit other countries?"
and DID I OR DID I NOT SAY WHAT I THOUGHT AMERICANS WEAR WHEN THEY VISIT SCOTLAND ? and yes you travel.ok so you see both sides of it dont you ? so no need to take a fucking hissy fit at me because i said what i thought americans wear when they come here. but if it makes you feel better i will say sorry for you guys that cannot stand anyone saying what they think even if it is a stereotype..
