eating raw oats?

I love munching raw oats! Ha ha - Glad to know that I'm not alone.

When I eat them cooked, I eat a more finely ground kind that I get at my local organic grocery store. I can't eat that kind raw. The Quaker kind (which are larger) I don't like cooked, but love raw. I've eaten it mixed with raisins too.

Makedah - I'm not fond of the Reese's oatmeal either - just don't like the choclate protein powder flavor any other way but with milk. I don't think it's too bad though.

I tried eating oatmeal with choc. protein powder. Do you just add a scoop of protein after the oatmeals cooked? That's what I did- it looked like doggy throw-up- yuck.

Wannbe - I'm with you. It does look like doggy throw up. My BF eats it every morning. BLECH. I keep trying to eat oatmeal but hate it - gooey and clumpy. Activate my gag reflex as soon as I put it in my mouth - it's like my throat closes up and I can't make myself swallow it. Haven't tried it in months so maybe I should attempt it again.

I think I could eat it uncooked - maybe in yogurt? Which leads to a question - the couple times a week I eat yogurt I mix in 1 tbsp grape nuts. Is that any better/worse then adding uncooked oats?

You mean add the oats if not trying to lose fat? And conversely, if trying to lose fat don't add the oats?

Point is, I'd love to lose some fat 'cause I got enough to lose. But am really trying to add more muscle without gaining more fat, and maybe losing a little in the process. Am occasionally eating 6oz FF yogurt + 1 tbsp grape nuts on higher carb days (2-3 times a week).

I do limit it to higher carb days or higher activity days because of the high sugar, processed simple carb. Maybe I'll try the ground up oats in my morning protein shake then for normal days.

Why can't yogurt be cutting food? :bawling: I like it.... oh well *sigh*

If you don't like oats, blend them with cottage cheese and egg whites and cinnamon and splenda to make oatmeal pancakes (see Cut's thread on the muscle food board). I could live on those they're so good. Actually, I DO live on them, ha ha.

And this weekend I'm going to try using chick peas instead of oatmeal in that recipe to see how they turn out - maybe without the splenda and cinnamon. I suppose any legume would do.

Have you tried oat bran? It's not as gooey as oatmeal. And full of even MORE fibre :)

Thanks for the thoughts Steel - I'll definately keep them in mind. I do hate oatmeal.... oat bran is a thought. More fiber is always good IMO, I don't get enough.
