During CKD, what if I...

During CKD, what if I ate a lot more than I should, exceeding my calorie intake BUT still staying in ketosis, am I still burning fat? THX

Oh, I'm still eating the foods that should be eaten during the CKD diet, but just a bit more than I should, eg. I keep eating more turkey slices and string cheese than I should.THX again.

I think it might be beneficial. It's good to switch it up a bit. Even though it doesn't seem technecially correct that you will burn fat on a higher caloric intake.... it just might happen. Your metabolism will heat up and cause greater fat loss. I DOUBT this will happen if you are constantly on a higher caloric intake.. maybe once or twice every one to two weeks it might be beneficial. not everyday though.

X what are your thoughts?

It hurts to say it.

But I agree with Diamond.. :)
If you eat above your maint. calories, you will gain weight. Now if you're working out hard and you're in ketosis, it might be muscle, but you won't burn your fat stores if you're above maint. calories. Some say that your maint. calories go up somewhat on a ketogenic diet because being in ketosis speeds your metabolism, but I've yet to see anything that really supports this.

i disagree, because when you're in ketosis there is something called metabolic advantage, as dr.atkins explains in his books. his patients eat very often way above regular maintenance calorie wise, however in ketosis, calories don't count as in a regular carb containing diet! all dietary fat will be burned together with body fat.

Just a reminder that the term "maintenance calories" means the calories that are required to maintain your current weight. You cannot be eating above maintenance if you are still losing weight. The "metabolic advantage" is just a marketing term for a diet that is inefficient (interms of calorie absorption and utilization) and curbs your appetitie due to it's high fat content. Again I stress that you cannot be eating above maintenance if you arent' maintaining or gaining weight.

In other words I agree with Diamoniceclay.

as i found out, you all are correct, calories do still count on a keto diet, especially when you are trying to loose fat. if you are not trying to loose, the likelyhood of getting fatter are much smaller on a keto diet though than on a high carb diet.:)
