dumbell presses for time ??

i have been doing some db presses for time on a stability ball on DE day..how long do you guys time these..jeez, i get about 45 seconds into these and about die! I use the 40lbers..everyone gets a kick out of me getting pissed on trying to do theses LOL
 
Hey bro. I love those!!

I dont do them really fast. I am more interested in flushing blood in there. But i usually go 40 to 50 lbs and i go 3 minutes. What i do is moderate repping the first minute. About one rep every second and a half maybe 2. Then on the second minute i do reps every 3 to 5 seconds. 3rd minute I press then hold for 5 seconds then bring down for 5 seconds then repeat tilllast minute is up. It may not be THE WAY, but we do them that way and love them.

I read Louie Simmons sometimes does a total of 6 reps per minute. So do them at your pace. What Musclehed can do!! And always on the stability ball.
 
Thanks PLJ!!! I thought maybee that was the way to do, pace it...I would sit there and go crazy and go all out and fizzle fast! I forgot you said you did those...thanks again!
 
Well I've posted different questions about these a couple times on Dave's site. Here's what I found out and what I do.

After dyn and me work. 60's for 1min and 15-30 seconds.
Day after dyn and me work. 35-40 for about 4 minutes.

I do them like Lou said and do one rep every six seconds, pausing at the bottom until I get too worn out, then I pause at the top. Kind of a way to cheat out a little more time. They said that no matter where you pause them, chest or extended, that they will work the muscles fully. Good luck and if you try these you will like them.

i think westside has a top 5 list of things they tell people to fuck with them:


1. use the stability balls (hahaha look at those girlies using the stability balls)

2. do dumbell presses as long as you can possibly do em. (hey dave, i am sure that will confuse them)

3. tell them to go out and buy 10 different type bars (and oh by the way we sell them all).....

i could go on.....

I kinda wondered about that too Irish!!! Thats just like the gym i trained at in the 80's!!!! I trained at suncoast gym in tampa, rick weil trained there, well he would do reverse grip benches as a assistant exercise...I came home from college, and did these just to do them...well, by monday, the whole gym was doing them..A guy I trained with then, he was a super heavy weight, world champion at that time, and a crazy bastard, came up with the idea to make up exercises, and see if everyone would do them! So, the next day, he stood there, facing the mirror, with a 100# db, raised it out straight in front of him and would bring it in and touch his nose! We yelled, "come on, get one more! Push it!"
then he says, man, those are great for your bench!!! LOL Low and behold, every goober was doing these by monday!!!!! LOL
 
Kind of like standing in the mall and staring and pointing at the sky. Get a couple of people to do it, and start asking strangers if they see it.

Invariably somebody will vehemently agree that they too see it.

I had hoped that my crazy training regimen would catch on at the old gym I went to before I built the Dungeon, but they looked, asked questions, and then went right back to their bodybuilding or toning routines.

LMAO at the 100's to the nose. I guess that shows you what a role model you are. Don't dip snuff, or everyone else may follow your lead. Just like baseball players in the 80's.

brian that's soooo tru I do that sometime just to mess round and everyone so they don't feel dumb say that they see it too.

NO ONE in my gym trains powerlifter or let alone westside and i was doin tate presses with 55's last monday for my 3X8 well i came in the next monday and all the little freshman were tryin to do these with 20#DB's strugglin for 1. I lift at my HS gym stil. IT was great b/c they thought I did that to make my chest grow and I had to tell them it was for a big bench usin tri's
