Dumbbell Side Bends for abs. Anyone else ever do this exercise?

I'm not sure what the correct name for this exercise is but I'd seen it before and though I'd give it a try.

Hold a heavy DB in 1 hand. With arm relaxed, lower the weight by bending sideways at the waist. Then pull the DB up by straightening the body and then continueing over to the other side to fully contract the obliques.

My last set of it was with a 70 lb DB and it was a real challenge to get 10 reps per side. It was also good for some grip training as I did it on back day (grip already fatigued) and I did the reps slow to avoid back injury, so I had to hold the weight a relatively long time.

Anyone else ever do this exercise?

I have actually done those with my farmers walks. I did get a little sore.

Ever try Saxons? Hold a pair of light dbells (I use 11's) over your head, palms facing, and bend to each side slowly. I got VERY sore from them.

Yes, I have tried these before, and they do get me sore...but when I did them for a long period of time they made my waist a bit thick. If you don't mind that then I would suggest doing them.

Saxons? Hmm, maybe I'll try that. But I'll look like a fucking tree swaying in the breeze.

Hahaha...do them light. I do like 3-4 sets of 6...and it hurts:)

definatly do them high reps with lighter weights....i used to do them with heavier weights made my waste really wide and thick as was stated before.......i like twisting exercises to hit the obliques and keep them slim
