Do dips work DELTS?????

Lumberg

Hey man I was reading in Arnold's book that dips works delts. That is completely counterintuitive to me since if you think about it dips are the exact oposite of say military presses.

I superset db shoulder raises with dips and don't notice any drop off in either due to the other.

So what gives, man?

I think they do indirectly as they are a compound movement, I get a burn in my delts doing dips (parallel bar) sometimes

they are a stabilizer group since your whole body needs them to hold you still while your tris and pecs work. a real good excercise, though...

They also make them grow...

I try to do exercises which make lots of muscles grow...

THey work the delts from a stretched mode. However very soon bodyweight only dips will no longer provide "interesting" stimulation for the front delts once they get used to that weight and the heavy overhead presses you do.....

That's why: progressively heavy weighted dips keep m awake

I see what lord suston is saying.

Also I would assume the more you lean forward the more delt involvement there is. I notice the more you lean back the more lat involvement there is. I try to keep it right in the middle; I use it on chest day to really hit my pecs and tris and I think of it as kind of AR for my lats.
