Dextrose- Mr.X and Vets, Do You Know The Nutritional Value???

Guys, I've seen conflicting nutritional values on Supplement Direct's and Proteinfactory's sites. SD says 1/3 cup of Dextrose is 160 calories and 40 grams of carbs, while PF says 1/3 cup of Dextrose is 292 calories and 75 grams of carbs. So, who's right???

Both are right...they both have DIFFERENT concentrations of dextrose per g of powder.

Ok Mr.X, I just received this info from a guy from another board. He measured and weighed the Dextrose from SD and PF with a digital scale to make sure it was ACCURATE. Here's what he came up with- 1/4 cup=35 grams of Carbs, 1/2=47 grams of Carbs, and 1/2 cup=70 grams of Carbs. What if someone was using Slin thinking thy were taking in more Dextrose than they really were? Can you say DISASTER!!! Both of them need to correct their labels.

He used a digital scale? But did he account for the concentration? I guess he was just trying to validify the claims of weight, nothing more.

Yikes....

I've been using 1/2c SD dextrose PW thinking it was about 70-75g carbs. I remember last year some guy weighing it and it came out to about that amount, claiming SD was mislabled.

Oh well, if this is true, I've been taking in 112.5g carbs PW...it's been working great, so I guess I'll stick with it. Perhaps I should bump up my r-ALA from 200mg to 300mg though.

Mr.X,

Are you absolutly positive that SD's dextrose is correctly labled, 1/3c = 75g carbs, 292 calories? Because if this is true I think I'm taking in way too many simple carbs PW...I've always thought (based on other posts) that SD's dextrose was mislabled.

I've been using 1/2c thinking it was about 75g carbs :(

You have PF and SD mixed up. SD's dextrose is labled 1/3c = 75g carbs, 292 calories.

Yes, I'm sure, they are about +/- 5-10g carbs.

Thanks for clearing that up. Looks like I've been taking in 112.5g dextrose PW for quite some time now.

With that amount of dextrose (112.5g), whats the chances of glucose spill over to fat after a grueling workout? I only train 3 days a week, and hit an hour hard each session:

Day1: Shoulders/Arms/ 30 minutes PW cardio
Day3: Quad/Hams/Lower Back/Abs/ 30 minutes PW cardio
Day5: Chest/Back/Calves/ 30 minutes PW cardio

Think stay at the 1/2c dextrose, or cut it down to 1/3c?

it depends on how glucose depelted you are....\

Table 1: Comparison of bodily fuels in a 150 lb man with 22% bodyfat
Tissue---------------Average weight (lbs)----------Caloric worth (kcal)
Adipose tissue---------triglyceride 33 ---------------135,000
Muscle protein ------------13 -------------------------24,000
Carbohydrate stores

Muscle glycogen (normal) 00.25 --------------------480
Liver glycogen --------------00.5 ----------------------280
Blood glucose----------------00.04 --------------------80
Total carbohydrate stores--00.8--------------------840

So a 150lb 22%bf person has about 220g worth of stored glucose....you probably have the ability to store about 300+/- some.
