DAMNED Bulking PWO shake

Ok, just a word of advice.

My PWO shake is 100 grs simple carbs (read "basically quick sugar" 50grs Dextrose, 50 grs Maltodextrin) mixed with 50 grs Whey on 0.75 ltrs water...

Two things I noticed:

- It is VERY sweet, almost undrinkable (the things we do) Drink some water afterwards to wash it down a bit
- You better make sure you brush your teeth afterwards... can only think what all that sugar will do to your teeth if left there to have its way

you think 100g is excessive? I usually take no more than 75g of dextrose.

it's what I read is recommended for my weight, actually should be about 110 grs or so... if I were to use 100 grs dextrose, there would be puking involved in the locker room... At least Malto has no flavor, so flavor wise it is only 50 grs of dex.

the formula for bulking I got is 5 grams of carbs per every 10 lbs of body weight. Half of the amount of carbs in protein.

so, 200lb guy, should have 100 grs carbs (50-50) and 50 grs protein.

I cannot tell just now if it's too much, since I am gaining a lot of weight (luckily, mostly LBM) eating at maintenance level (my body is taking a while to adjust after all the months of cutting), but my energy has soared.

The PWO is about 500 cals by itself, so that thing is a meal calorie-wise
 
hey pintoca,

i have a hard time getting those PWO insulin-spikers down myself. If you don't live too far from the gym you could try what I do sometimes. put the dextrose in oatmeal. its not the best oatmeal you're ever going to eat in your life, but it's MUCH better than that weird protein-powder/over-sweet crap. then you can have the protein in its own, less nasty, shake.

Add more water to dilute the sweet taste. I mix 35g of dextrose and 35g of maltodextrin with 35g of protein in a 750ml litre shaker, drink half immediately post workout and the remainder over about 20 - 30 minutes. Tastes great if the flavour is appealing.

You're right about the effects the sugar has on teeth. I brush my teeth afterwards and also drink with a straw to reduce the contact the sugar has on my teeth somewhat.
