Cytomel Question

I've been considering adding T3 and could use some advice on where to start.

It's come to my attention that I probably need it MEDICALLY, anyway, judging by my research, and might need it for the rest of my life at some low dosage. Since your average AMA schmo is hard to convince to even do T3/T4 test, much less prescribe, I thought I would, as usual, take matters into my own hands. My TSH is fine, but I still have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism, which I understand is a T3 conversion in the liver issue rather than an actual thyroid gland issue.

Am looking for advice on where to start (dosage) etc., from any women here who have used it either medically or aesthetically. Any words of wisdom?

You know I DID do a "F*****G Search" and neither Spatt's post nor any of the one's she referenced in it showed up.

I guess what I want to know is if anyone is taking medically, because they are hypothyroid, and are supposed to. NOT with an AS to cut.

If not, what the hell - thanks for the reference, too.

3 months ago it sounds as if we were in the same boat. After seeing my doctors mess up too many times in the past I too "took matters in my own hands". Now I'm on T3 25mcg/day, and take it 1/2 6:00am and the other 6:00pm. Since then my moods are better, and don't need any other outside help in keeping up my energy. I'm not on AS, but my LBM is still fine.

Thanks so much for the help!

My TSH came out just fine at 1.99, but my hair's still falling out, still cold all the time.

I know what you mean... While everyone around me would be hot, -I'd be sitting there in a sweater. As for my hair, I haven't seen it looking this thick & healthy in a long time.
Hope everything turns out ok for you!

thanks for your help and good wishes.

I see amounts with an AS of like 100 mg per day (or is that mcg?) - no wonder they're worried about losing muscle.

The amounts I've seen for hypothyroidism are like 10-50 mcg per day, taken by the crumb throughout the day and sound like what you're doing.

Just tired of my hair falling out in clumps, tired of being cold, tired of having to starve to lose a couple of pounds (or eat normally and explode like a poisoned dog), tired of those little depressive waves and exhausted waves.

www.About.com has an awesome thryoid site and while I don't have the link, it's not hard to find.

I take T3 and levoxyl for my low thyroid and I've fiddled around with the doseages a number of times. I tend to believe that it's better to apologize than ask persmission, so I pop the pills and then tell my MD.

I take .75 of levoxyl and .25 of the T3 and it's taken me a few years to arrive at these numbers. My hair is fine, my weight is fine, and I have the energy to go to the gym, which is the most important thing for me. I don't eat soy, which is hard on the thryoid.

While dealing with the MD can suck, it's worth it to get the blood test. My TSH is below 1 and while my Dr. grumbles, he writes the script. (On the other hand, I told him I can buy T3 at any gym in So Cal, so he'd rather write the prescription, I guess.)

Most women are happiest with a TSH between 1 and 2, so your 1.99 might be too high for your comfort. Find an endocrinologist who'll treat the symptoms, not the numbers. A woman is always better, INMHO.

I have hypothyroidism as well. I have researched ways to try to raise your free thyroxine. Recently my test showed lower results than normal. Anyone know what i could be doing?
I take zoloft, but at night. i take 50 mg of cytomel in two doses, one in the morn, one in the afetrnoon, same time every day. i don't eat any soy, dairy, wheat, shell fish, fish, tree nuts of peanuts (i am allergic to it all). i do an hour of cardio every day and lift three times and week and take ballet, same as usual. any ideas? thanks.

Zoloft=BAD. This culprit caused my Gf to gain 30lbs. The docs don't tell you it will cause you to gain weight. At first you lose weight when taking it but then you pack on the lbs and it has nothing to do with appetite increases. It kills your metabolism. I'msure it affects T3 levels. My GF has great thyroid levels but I am almost sure she needs Cytomel.
