Is that too much working out you think?
While a lot of the research on cardio is often a bit confusing (slow or HIIT for fat burning), best heart rate etc, these are a few things I think are good general rules of thumbs
- no more than 45 - 60 min in a session (unless of course you are out for a long walk) as it can suppress immune system function
- the body adapts quite quickly to whatever you throw at it, so it is a good idea to change from walking to cycling, different intensities etc
- best times are first thing in morning before eating or after training
- there also seems to be more fat burning when your heart rate goes up and down, so things like doing 20 min, then doing some weights or stretching then doing another 20 min seems to work really well
- also I think the best thing is to incorporate walking into your lifestyle.
After visiting the US, I do realise this is quite difficult in some circumstances, and the walks are not always that pretty, but I do think things like walking the children to school is perfect, and good for the young ones
