I have read females eating only 900 calories a day to prep for their figure contest.. so now I am curious.. how many calories do you eat to get ready for a show..
can you post your sample menu -- with calories-- protein carb fat etc and dont forget fiber :p

thanks

It all depends on your weight and hieght as well as what works for you in terms of ratios for protien carbs and fat.

900 cals would work for someone that is 90 lbs but not most of us. Even if you look at tops pro's diets they follow the 10 x body weight for cutting.

Jenny Lynn's Diet was in Oxgen a few months ago here it is:

Meal 1
1/3 c. oatmeal
6 egg whites

Meal 2
1/3 cup brown rice
4oz chicken

Meal 3
5 oz lean ground turkey
1 c. green veggies

Meal 4
6oz white fish
1 c. green veggies

Meal 5
4oz chicken
1 c. green veggies

Meal 6
8 egg whites
1 1 c. green veggies

Rough break down

Calories 1200 Protien 65% Carbs 25% Fat 10%

Her comp weight is 125 @ 5'5

My weight is 134 I am averaging 1400 it seems to work .. I am 5' 7"..
i have a little more carbs.. I am 8 weeks out..

If its working, stick with it. If you cut your cals way down I think you are going to screw yourself. At 8 weeks out you definitely don't want to start getting extreme in your dieting yet because you wont' have anythign left to tweak when you are 2-3 weeks out. And if you run too long at a too low food intake then your body will most likely just decide it isn't interested and start tryign to hold on to the energy resources it has.

As you are cutting for a competition, it becomes not so much how much you eat but rather what you are eating, what you combine it with, when you eat it, etc-- all those things that you do to manipulate your metabolism.

Ever since I started competing 5 yrs ago that has been one of the debates. I don't know if its "old school" or what. The thing is that distilled water is basically "dead". Your body uses the stuff that is in regular water (note I'm not talking about the myriad of things that come in typical city tap water... but rather the good stuff). What I've come to understand is that for everything that we eat that occurs naturally on the planet, our bodies generally have a purpose for it. If you alter it some how, it either serves no purpose or is detrimental. (For ex, diet coke may not kill you, but is it really helping you at all??? The general rule of thumb on anything you drink other than water is that you need 2x that amount in water to flush it out of your system.)

So distilled.... here's the best use of it that I seem to have come across. For my competition in May, I drank filtered tap water or bottled water 100%. However as I cut my intake down during the last week, I came to realize that literally 1/2 of the day's alottment was going to helping me chug down my supps (EFAs, digestive enzymes, vitamins, taraxatone) or trying to choke down yet another dry potato. So if that's where its going, what's left when I really need it?? So to that end, my trainer gave me an allotted 12 oz of distilled water to take my supps w/ and use the regular water after my meals. That seemed to work just fine.

But note that when you are in the last few days of pre-comp & especially the day before & the day of, you *REALLY* need to watch your liquid intake. It can really screw you up if you aren't paying attention.

On a side note, if your electrolytes are out of balance from the various things used to dump water, that is probably the biggest thing you need to be careful of as a competitor -- maybe not so much as a figure girl because you don't need to dump every ouce of subQ water, but if you do start feeling dizzy while on stage or during show day, throw down a couple potato chips. The salt will help to balance out your electrolytes.

as I get closer to competeing(7 weeks) IS salmon tuna and egg whites (& chicken breast tenders) the best low carlorie protein I should eat??
i also eat tofu and whey protein??
