chiropractor for bulged discs?

I checked out the article MM...cool shit

went to the surgeons office today and what a complete fuckin waste of time that was...basically no pt was scripted and he was told to walk to keep his fitness level up and he should do more cardio. He should walk daily (he said it hurts to walk) or use an elliptical to stay in shape and consider dropping weight lifting for life because its bad for you mmkay? and heres some predisone, see ya in two weeks

now hes not a big dude by any stretch of the imagination..hes 190lbs at 6'-ish (be says 6-1, I say 6') and hes like 10% bf and he dropped 5 lbs in the last three weeks and the dr immediately started asking about cancer hx..dude, maybe you missed the part where he said no gym for three weeks and the tramadol makes him sick and the part where he said his back felt better than it had in a long time by going BACK TO THE GYM..prescribe fuckin pt..fuck

oh, she actually said he was very big and could stand to lose a little muscle (on what planet)

I hope the chiropractors office gets him set up with some pt with their physical therapist and isn't retarded

rant over...what horseshit

anyone tried it? or should I just him euthanized

for peeps that have a clue what it all means

L4-L5 broad based disc bulge causing mild canal stenosis. moderate left foraminal stenosis. mild right foraminal stenosis.

L5-S1 small disc bulge causing mild right foraminal stenosis

bridging osteophytes in right SI joint

for peeps that don't know...discs are bulging into nerve spaces, the left one is symptomatic, the right sides small bulges are not

and theres arthritis in the right SI joint (back of the hip at the tailbone)

the central stenosis kind of freaks me out but I don't know if it should

so...chiropractor with physical therapy? what say you...
the ortho sent him to a surgeon...I think this is extreme

i have minor bulges at s5 and s6 and problems at the si joint + periforis syndrome ( fml and fuck them glute shots ) .
i work in a hospital.. got some free scans done ,seen a consultant neuro surgeon and he reckoned that surgery like vertabrae fusion was not worth the risk ... and told me to stay da fuck away from chiropractors . pain management was the way to go ...physio,massage ( i can help you there :qt: ) , hot baths and shit like that...as opposed to meds.
supported seating and good posture would help ..lol
after 2-3 years most of the pain has subsided and i still train 4 days a week.
minor bulges are common once you hit mid thirties ( so i'm told )

anywho there ya go...gimme a call when you want that 3-handed masage :)

FUCK ! just read your original post and its not you with the back problem...cancel the massage offer .

Shirl,

I am going to give my old man back advice as I have been going through this once or twice a year for the last 10 yrs. Twice already this year including now so this is fresh on the mind.

1) It takes 4 weeks to get over this. Somethings are going to help but nothing really. 3 weeks you won't be able to do anything but walk and maybe ride a redundant bike.
2) Chiropractor can relieve some pain and speed recovery by getting things lined up - but it is still 4 weeks
3) Stop lifting weights and jogging during this time
4) laying on the floor with your feet on a stool feels better than most meds
5) Desk chairs are the devil
6) go for a walk every night - help loosen it up gets blood in the spine
7) from now on, bench press with your feet on the bench
8) forget standing squats. Use a leg press. Just too easy to fuck it up again
9) Advil and Aleve are the way to go. Too much more and you are going to end up with an addiction
10) Keep your hamstrings stretched at all times. That is my downfall.

Hope that helps. So now you don't need to waste any more time with a Dr (fuck off Chris).

yeah, this is all the hubs...my back is remarkably pain free since my bikram kick...
hell I was a little tight in an si joint last night (and had worked back the day before) so I popped into "rabbit pose" got a nice stretch until a little pop then more stretch and was all better and promptly fell asleep
I get strange looks for "standing bow" in the middle of the gym but its awesome for a quad and pirformis stretch

the prendisone seems to of made a huge difference with him today but we've talked over his weight lifting routine and scratched squats and deads...perhaps indefinitely
the chrio hes going to is actually a licensed physio too ...Im hoping he can finally get a plan in place that he'll listen to for muscle imbalances in his lower back/core

Columbo....lemme know when youre ready to give that three handed massage..haha

I alternate between a ergo chair and an exercise ball at my desk. Sitting on the ball promotes small motion and blood flow to your lower back.

I did the exercise ball thing when I was pregnant....hed have to clear the ball with security but they did order him a new ergo chair
