Chest day = Shoulder pain ... WHY!?

gettinlarger

New member
when im workin my chest, my shoulder(s) will begin to hurt some. and its not "pump" pain either. its pain-pain. any guesses as to why? im thinking its because of either (a) heavy weight or (b) i dont stretch enough. im thinking of stretching before and after workouts, which i should do, but often forget. if it helps, im 5'9, 164, bench is up to 255 (as of today! yes!), db's are up to 90s. any and all help is appreciated. the pain has just recently come up, in the last few weeks or so.

could it be your rotator cuffs, do u do any exercises for these, also i would take a week off maybe you just messed something up there if this is the first time it has happened, though if it is reoccuring each workout for a while then you got a problem more than a week off will help.

is your form perfect, a lot of people when using heavy weight move there shoulders to get some more momentum. Also some times people's shoulders will raise toward their heads on the bench to provide extra leverage, this puts a lot of strain on you shoulders, try to stretch and do some lighter weight for 2 weeks and see if the pain goes away.....

This is the first thing i thought of when i read his post. I reckon it's most likely non-perfect form over a period of time and it's gradually took it's toll.

shoulders play a huge role on chest day. In fact, some athletes get more out of their shoulders then their pecs on chest day. You may want to mix up your exercises a bit. I dont bench anymore really for pec mass, just use the dumbells and really stretch and squeeze. Hope this helps...also, warm up real good no matter what you do and always start off with some rotator cuff exercises

well obviously you're doing serious internal rotation on chest day. if you have adhesions and scar tissue in your rotator cuff (and if you're an avid weightlifter, its safe to say you do), it will pull your shoulder out of alignment, causing impingement and other problems.
