How many calories should I be eating a day? I weigh in at about 150 lbs at 6-7% bf. I weightlift three times a week, chest, back, then squat/dead day. Workouts are short and intense. I'm looking to maximize muscle mass because I'm on the smaller side. Also, How many g's of protein per day?

you need 300g-325g per day protein-I weigh 152 and my trainer has told me to do so-eat 60-100g carbs a day to help bulk-you sound like you should be happy with your current bf%

I agree. Get your protein grams just over double your bodyweight in pounds. This, IMO, is best for bulking. Also agree with Hoff on your calories. Get used to 2700 or more, then add as you go.

Did your trainer give any reasons for this?

Sorry, just a follow-up.

If you are trying to add mass, I wouldn't restrict carbs. You *want* insulin, you *want* to create an anabolic environment for your body to grow.

Protein requirements actually go *down* somewhat when you are eating over-maintenance calories, assuming your energy needs are met with carbs and fats. The actual best estimate is something like .8 g/lbs of *lean* body mass. When cutting, you want to overcompensate, because some of that may be used for energy, so you want more protein.

Massive protein intake/restricted carbs during bulking is in essence using protein as an expensive, inefficient energy source. Sure, it may work. But I think there are better ways to accomplish it.

I think I'm gonna go with the Hoffmeister. I know that you can't digest more than like 40g or so of protein at a time anyways and therefore it's too hard (and probably a waste) to eat that much. However, I think I can handle 2700-3000 calories a day. Thanks for the #'s.
