Bench-your-body-weight-for-reps contest results

There was an area meet nearby that was a push-pull only meet(bench and deads, what's up with no squats? That should be the topic of another thread). Anyway, I'm 6 weeks out from my next meet so I decided to go try the "exhibition" event, bench your bdywt for reps. Everyone pays $20 and the winner gets half, the other half goes to charity. I weighed in at 224 and had done 225 for 33 (at the end of my regular bench routine) last week so I felt good about my chances. I went next to last which helped. The first few were in the 20's and things were looking up. Dude before me was in the regular bench meet and got a 450 at 212 with no bench shirt. Slight concern. He does 210 for 32, gonna be tough, I'm thinking. On the dude before him they took away 4 reps for not locking out, I'm thinking slow down a tad and make sure to lock 'em out. Well that must've played a part 'cuz I only got 31 with 225, but they took 1 away, I couldn't get 32 (to tie, by my count at the time) to lock out. So I ended up second place with 30. Winner took home $60.

Not too bummed 'cuz I had a good time and saw some good lifts. Saw a SHW get 575 (barely missed 600) and 450 at 212 (no shirt). Time to quit fooling around with reps and get back to the power stuff.

Thanks guys. I'm very surprised I didn't get sore seeing as how my blood must've been pure lactic acid by the time I was done. My leg was shaking and all on the last one.

I am amazed. Bodyweight for that many reps is very impressive, even if you weigh 148 or 165, but at your weight, that is phenomenal.

I cannot rep for shit. People who do things I cannot impress me to a much greater degree than those who do things I am at least adequate at. That is why I admire deadlifters so much, and also why I admire those who can do tons of reps.

Cannot say enough how impressive that is.

That's incredible! That's one of the cooler user names too by the way. I find it fascinating about not being able to bench as much for 1 rep. Ought to look up some articles on it.
I've looked up world records for push ups and it's in the 1000s. You know they can't be heavy power lifters, but this seems disproportionate to weight. I'm sufficiently baffled............
