Hi...I'm sure you have all read this a hundred times about beginner trainers....I am not new to the idea of working out...actually quite the opposite....I thrive on it but I have been unable to come up with a good routine for myself and although I am not a shy person when it comes down to trying to create a routine I wus out......I'm average build....a little over 5'6 and about 150lbs.....I'm not fat but feel like I have some to lose.....I'm a decent athlete but would love some suggestions from people if they wouldn't mind to help me get started.....

Thanks

What are your goals, immediate and long-term?

Goals.....Have to be to lose about 10-15lbs.....I'ld like to do that by the end of June for my brothers graduation.....Long term...I'ld like to be able to have a routine that is going to make and keep me looking sexy...and something that I can do about 3 times a week just to get into a routine of things so that I stay healthy and so that I have more energy for the sports that I play.....Rugby and Volleyball

Age: 19

Bone Frame: I'ld say medium.....not delicate by any means....

Training: Only done through my highschool gym classes and with my Rugby team and sister but that's mimimal

Weights: Depends on the equipment....Leg press 110lbs, Leg curls 70lbs, some other leg thing 80lbs.....arms biceps usually no more than 15lbs...although I do 20lbs for about 2 reps just to see if I can....any other are strength came from work....I also did a lot of cardio

Love: My favorite exercise is probably working my legs...I love running and the leg press.....It makes me feel like I can actually do something....I also love any arm exercise that when I'm done I can almost already see a change.....

Hate: I hate doing squats.....they look awkward and I just don't like the way that they feel.....I also don't like doing the bench press because the bar never goes down straight for me...it always wobbles....

On the bench thing, I use to hate doing bench. I fucked up my wrists at a young age, so doing anything with a bar is very awkard for me, and sometimes painful. My friend showed me how to do it with DB and now it's my favorite lift, and I am proud to say my chest has grown rock hard since I've started doing it. You should try it, you can do Flat, Incline, Decline, and Flyers with DB to build a good chest area without ever even touching a BB, which should ease up on that wobbling issue.

Try a Manta Ray for squats (http://www.adfit.com/mantaray/index.asp). I love mine, it makes squats alot easier because you don't have to worry so much about balance.

squats are awesome. I like doing them with just the barjust to see how low I can go, without messing up my form. its harder this way since there is no weight to hold you down rather than having three plates on each side squeezing your body like an accordion. you should give it a shot a couple of times. you will get results quicker than you think if you do these properly. I learned the hard way, trial and error. and since I had no one to show how to do it in front of my face, I also had the feeling of defeat. don't let this get to you.

Ok... You neeeeeed to do squats, bench & deads if you are serious about training.
I can't stress this enough!!!
People told me this when I was 19, and I ignored them. And I didn't grow...

The whole Wobbling thing will go away with time. (I'd say you'll stop wobbling enough it won't bother you anymore in about 3 months) And using Dumbells for chest is an great idea! It will help you to build those stabilizer muscles that cause that wobble on barbell.

Funny story, I went back home one day to lift w/ my younger brother, we're almost identical in body frame (he's a little bigger) But we both lift, he has done nothing but barbell bench, I do both... At the time, he lifted more than me on barbell bench... but when we went to dumbells, he was wobbling so bad, I was seriously scared he'd drop the weight on his head... This is when I realized the true benifit of doing dumbells as apposed to barbell...
