Beer!!!!

ok, i work out constantly. i eat right and drink plenty of water. i am pretty serious about training. however, i do have one major weakness. I LOVE BEER ! before i started working out, i would drink beer pretty much everyday. usually two 24oz or a 32oz on the weekdays, and a 6 or 12 pack on the weekend. now that i am starting to get into training, i have only been having my saturday evening drink, usually just 3-4 12oz beers. i am 21 years old, and even though i have been drinking ALOT the past few years, i am still a pretty skinny guy.

now for the question. will having 3 or four beers on the weekend totally offset my efforts in maintaining good diet throughout the weekdays, as well as working out? it has always been hard for me to gain/maintain my weight, as i have a high metabolism. i am currently trying to gain muscle mass/weight. therefore, do i really need to worry about the extra calories in the beer? this has been a big adjustment for me cutting back all the drinking. however, am i just kidding myself? do i HAVE TO STOP DRINKING ALTOGETHER?

i know that some of you fitness gurus like to drink occasionally right?

lemme know guys, and sorry about the n00b question... but i really wanna know.

thanks in advance

You might not gain weight, but eventually you will develop a beer gut, if that doesn't bother you, than keep drinking. I don't drink alcohol at all, rarely I will have a glass of wine. I think you should quit drinking beer IMO, otherwise you will be busting your ass with diet and exercise, and you will never see the results you want.

Also, beer (alcohol) is a diuretic to most people. Water makes up 70-90% of muscle tissue. You would really need to increase your daily water consumption to help offset this.

Of course, if you are taking any orals, you shouldn't be drinking at all. Too much liver stress/damage potential. Not worth the risk.

You need to have balance in life.....if you want a couple of beers on the weekend and you diet is in check all week...go for it..reward yourself.....geezus.

a couple on the weekend?
not a big deal

having a six pack a night?
um, that might qualify as a problem
ever notice how guys who drink alot have man-tities?
just something to think about

it doesnt sound like beer is your problem, if you're not gaining weight its b/c ur not eating enough .. but dont count the calories in beer towards your daily caloric total, doesnt work that way

i know plenty of people who train hardcore day in day out and reward themselves by having some drinks on the weekend, not a big deal

if you take all rewards out of your life bc of training, it will soon become a hassle instead of doing it bc you enjoy it! but id say a 6 pack a nite is excessive!

cool...life without beer would suck.

but naw, i dont drink as much now that i am training again. like i said, only a few on the weekends, and i dont drink on the weekdays anymore. no man titties for me...lol. and yeah, i never was able to eat when i am not hungry, so that might be my problem. another question though to STEP OFF, how come beer calories wouldn't count towards your daily caloric total? i thought thats why i shouldnt drink so much, otherwise more than half my daily calories would come from beer...lol. please explain, cuz like i said, i don't really understand beer nutrition.

hey, once again thanks guys for answering my n00b questions.

evaluate your priorities, who are we to tell u what u should or shouldn't do. If you are serious about bodybuilding, then by all means. Stop drinking. It will interfere with nitrogen retention, protein synthesis and many other important anabolic conditions. It can also negatively affect test/estro levels.

beer does not provide your body with nutrients, its sometimes called "empty calories" or "naked calories". what i meant by not counting it toward your daily intake was, lets say you're bulking with 3500cals. those cals should come from nutritional food/drinks (protein shakes, etc). dont restrict yourself to 3200 cals b/c you're going drinking later on in the night. you'll lose valuable protein this way.
