I'm not a gun owner but I believe in the right to bear arms.
I also know that gun rights in this country are stronger than they ever have been, thanks to recent supreme court decisions.
As far as complete gun bans, anyone who is afraid of them is out of their mind paranoid. It can't happen. But I know when you say "gun ban" and "Obama" in the same sentence, we got us some hillbilly ass puckerin' goin on.
The supreme court has left open the possibility of some controls on weaponry. Which is nothing new. You can't go to walmart and buy a machine gun or an RPG. And most Americans are happy about that.
I don't care if assault weapons are banned, but I'm not sure I support the idea either. I'm a scientific man, and I make decisions based on data if possible. From what I can tell about the 10 year assault weapons ban, it had no clear effect on crime. If you can't justify a law based on data that it will help, then it probably isn't justified.
On the other side of the coin, the Aurora theater incident is the kind of crap that can get you thinking about why do we need those guns?
So, I'm undecided on the assault weapons ban reinstatement.
