Back

would you do db rows on the same day as bb rows? if not, when should you do db rows? I like this particular exercise. here is my back day

deads
bb rows
wide grip chins
db pullovers

also, how are db pullovers properly executed and what part of the back do they target?

Your back day is the same as mine except I do pullovers on the hammerstrength

IMO db pullovers won't do anything for your back. Think about it, the fully contracted position for back is with your forearms at your sides, squeezing your blades together. The whole range of motion needed for this to hit back is like a half circle(from behind your head to your mids). If you're using db's, at 90 degrees you no longer have weight in that direction, now you're doing chest. That's 90 degrees of 180 that's wasted. DB pullovers are decent for chest but you're not going to hit your back with them. If you have access to a hammerstrength or something that will enable you to keep stress for 180 degrees, cool. If not, I'm pretty sure you'd be wasting time for your back.:)

well, I was doing them with the hammer strength mchine, but I'd figure to try out using db's, which I haven't seen any kind of results, so I guess I am going back to the hammer strength machine. but to answer my question, db rows same day as bb rows?

I completely disagree.
Dumbbell pullowers are a great upper lat devoleper and a lot of pros have used it in the past(I now Arnold did) and a lot of todays pros also use it.
It's true that part of the motion when your doing the exercise is ineffective, but that's also true for a lot other exercises - how much stress is placed on your side delts when you lower the dumbbell when performing lateral raises?
The stress will leave the upper lats and transfer to the pecs only near the 90 degree angle.
Have you ever seen Nasser hit abs and tighs pose.Did you notice how thic his upper lats are in that pose and how well devoleped his intercoastals are - DB pullowers are the main reason for that.
I have personally had great results with that exercise and I highly recommend it.

sounds like yall are arguing the same point.

he didnt say dumbell pullovers were a waist...... just once your arms are straight overhead....... you cant keep rotating down like you can on the mach.

oh...... arnold did those to stretch out his rib cage on chest day....... not for his lats..... but the serratus...... the front fingers.

but you do get a great stretch in them i will agree....... i like doing them for that reason.

Clear a few things up. First of all, pullovers work your back just fine. Maybe the ROM is limited but it still works the lats. Secondly, there are no upper lats, that's bodybuilding magazine bullshit lingo. It works the whole lat, period. I recommend choosing one (bb or db), and after it gets boring or stale, just switch it.
