Anyone have any tips on creating a routine for yourself?

I've tried a few routine's before, and I've seen barely ANY gains from them. I started lifting at the end October 2001. I'm gonna be tryin' to make my own routine today, and I was wondering if anyone has any tips? When you guys make your routines what do you focus on? If you put on your routine that you'll be doing 5 sets of 10 for benchpress, how do you know for sure that you'll be able to accomplish that? Or do you just do it to failure? Any help with this subject would be seriously appreciated. Just any basic information regarding the right steps in creating your own routine will be helpful.

Argh, I know I'm seriously un-educated regarding body-building and strength training, but keep in mind that I'm turning 14 in March, so I'm not exactly supposed to know a lot about body building.

My info
Bicep Size= 13 inches
height= 5'19
weight= 160lbs
I can max. bench press 130lbs for two reps.
Umm..I'm mainly trying to focus on my chest and shoulders with my training. Any other info you'd need to give me some tips?

If youre realy up to it

Go on the body for life challenge, all you need to do is buy the book BILL PHILLIP'S BODY FOR LIFE and follow the challenge for 12 weeks, if you follow the diet and training correctly you're guarneteed to look better

Im starting my third week tomorrow and ive already lost 2.5KG and its realy great!!!

Every BODY is different and responds different than everyone elses. What works for some people may not work for others, but the way to see what works best for YOU is to try a lot of different things. Plan a schedule of what you think your body can take, and work from there. Like they say, "if you don't suceed try and try again!"

Don´t come here first.

Do your own research.

Like all sights of this nature, there´s a lot of crap.

Bro - check out the thread entitled Old School 3 day per week program.

Follow the program and sample diet. Expect to gain 14-18 pounds in 8 weeks.

He shits you not......14 pounds here, and what, my fifth week?

Intense, growth, results.......try it...

I'm actually trying to LOSE bodyfat. Not gain it. Would the Old School 3 day per week program still work for me?

the best way to make a routine for yourself is trial and error, make a basic routine hitting the muscle groups, then see how that works for a little while, if you don't feel its working then start to change the exercises independantly untill you find what works best :)

Okay, at this point, if you train for size, your body will begin to lose bodyfat. Muscle burns fat while resting.

Definetly read the thread start to finish. It's an awesome program. Just make sure you study up on or have someone show you the PERFECT form for the exercises, especially the deadlifts and squats.
