Anyone ever had bruised ribs?

Could also be a tendon from an ab muscle that has seized at one end. There is a series of ligaments and tendons on the ends of your ribs.

Cheers,
Scotsmsan

Go see a DR & have him/her take X-Rays and finalize the situation. Be sure that you don't have a break. You sound as though you do not know, therefore you should exhaust any and every opportunity to cease the pain. See a DR ASAP.

If you don't, you will go down a long road of pain and possibly internal damage. I have been down this road before. You want to be 100% sure. Even if it's only a fracture, at least you know and can take the proper precautions.

see if you can go to a free university clinic. they usually will take case for cheaper than normal since they are teching their med students. it might take longer in the x ray room for them to diagnose it but it will be very cheap

Can you explain a little more about this?

Your ribs are connected to the breastplate and abs via tendons and ligaments. Also you floating ribs are held in place by ligs and tends. If an ab muscle seizes it puts serious pressure on the rib chain. Even if the pull is lower it will effect the area of greatest strength (ie. the attachments near the zyphoid process.

If this were to happen, then would the symptoms be similar to those listed above?

cheese- Yes I had that happen once and it felt like a bruise with a lump underneath it. Sharp pain from any sudden movement very sore to the touch.

Kentucky- yes this is primarily a no contact injury more of a muscle pull. Just a reactioin from too much strain. Contact would lead to a bruise.

The reason that I ask is that my wife has been experiencing similar symptoms ever since doing max effort low box squats last night. I'm thinking that she might have done what you are talking about.

How did you rehab it? How long did it take to heal?

Cheese- I just did a lot of stretching. Excruciatingly painful but had to be done. Also advil helps loosen up the muscles and heat/ice like for any muscle injury. If I remember right took about four days to feel ok and about two weeks to stop hurting completely.
