this sounds like one b fold the truth would know something about.
lately i have been pinch gripping two 25 pound plates(smooth side out) for 5 reps with one hand. holding each rep for 5 sec. at the top of each rep. Is this an acceptable poundage, and what type of poundage should i be shooting for. I have john brookfields book "Mastery of Hand Strength" and some of the grip feats in there are unreal. good reading i suggest u purchase it.:mix:

i deadlift...... that works my grip..... all three kinds:
sumo
conventional
and straight leg

i think that deadlifts work your hands hard, but to truly have tremendous grip strength, you need to do tough, specialized grip work. I just dont know enough people who train like i do(for functional strength) in my hometown. i hope i can learn some things from the guys on this board. :D

Do you do wrist curls aswell? I've always done them since I started training and I have a very good grip strength. I've do them every time I train for 2 sets of palms-up wrist curls and 2 sets of palms-down wrist curls, on the edge of your knee or a bench or whatever. I know one guy who does them as a 'warm-up' each time he trains and his forearms are probably the largest and the most vascular I have seen - they look scary. I agree about the deadlifts.

That book changed my life.

I have always had small weak wrists.(still do but they are getting better)

Im gonna have a separate post in a little while....with segments of the book outlined with photos of my toys.

The gear (toys) i have at the moment:

-Stones of different sizes in the back yard to clean and press
-plates with handles (to curl)
-Dumbells with eletrical tape around the handles......havent measured but they are about twice the thickness of a normal dumbell.
-home made wrist roller (about $10 australian....$5 US$)
-Captains of crush grippers.

im trying to focus on all aspects of hand strength......

what else do you do for your grip?
