Weight Gain While on BC pills a Myth!?!?

I went to the gyno today. I told her my conserns about weight gain while on BCpills. She gave me a Rx for Estrostep and said that the whole "weight gain" was a myth.?.?. WTF.(I've always heard that there was a very high chance of some weight gain while on the pill.)

Anyway...I did a search on it but didn't really find much. Has anyone had problems w/ it?

(I know this sounds crazy) but I've heard that you could manipulate the pill to where you skip a cycle. Is there any truth to this?

She's wrong you don't know exactly what synthetic hormones will do to an individual. The weight gain is *usually* no more than 5#

Yes. But the pills must be the same dose for the cycle with the exception of the placebo pills. I used to do this many moons ago and as far as I know there are no health risks doing it. ;) I did experience break through bleeding after about 3 months. Ask your MD about it with your specific pills.

Weight gain on the pill was not "a myth" for me.
My doctor told me the same thing, but it was like swallowing instant body fat. I have heard from women who did not gain weight, but they were few and far between. Some doctors will say "but it's only water". NOT in my case. Before the pill, my bf stayed in the mid teens w/ regular exercise. In less than 2 years it shot into the low 20's, even though I drastically increased my exercise and tightened my diet to combat it. When I went off the pill, the bodyfat dropped. Coincidence, I don't think so. The pill also turned me into an emotional roller-coaster. I switched to the IUD and love it.

Mine wasn't Estrostep, it was Triphasil and later Ortho-Tricyclen, so maybe Estrostep is better. Anyhow, I'm just naturally suspicious of anything with ESTRO in the name!:alien:

Estrostep is supposed to be a "weight neutral" pill. When I started it I actually dropped some considerable weight without any diet change. (I wasn't training then...)

I'm off BC now, but if I go back on I would definitely go back to Estrostep.
