Yes, this is very true. When I was at the same gym as NPC Mr. North Carolina Rodney Saunders, a beast of a guy who could easily have turned pro IMO, I found him to be incredibly friendly and open. I was only 16 at the time, and he made a point to complement how good I was doing at that age. That day, the only thing that could've made me happier was to have Heather Locklear fall in love with me
Last week as I walked in the gym unbeknownst to me a used up cinema ticket fell out my pocket as i fished for my always elusive membership card, this totally built guy who I see a lot in the gym picks it up and follows me in just to give it me back!
Many big guys don't have anything to prove to anyone but themselves. They typically don't strut around flexing their lats real hard. They don't bully smaller guys. They're there to train.
Some half-wit teenager, though, is all about gaining acceptance. His self-worth is defined by what others think of him. So he walks around with ILS, tries to lift weights that are far too heavy for him, and looks hard to find a chink in his superiors' armor.
