Acne and post workout nutrition...

I experience very mild acne on my face and moderate acne on my body on a regular basis. I have for 7 years. I am 21 now, but it used to be a lot worse when I was younger, especially on my face. I know that people say it has nothing to do with what food is ingested, but I am positive that this is not true. I really think that it has something to do with insulin. Reason being I have been taking dextrose 75g post workout and weight gainers which have a little maltodextrin and my face has had more acne daily despite being on antibiotics (minocin) and washing twice daily, and using other otc prodcuts. For the past 5 days I stopped taking dextrose and weight gainer and my face is completely clear right now, and my body is as well. Also I noticed that while I was on CKD eating no carbs, including no dextrose even post workout, I had the clearest skin I have seen in years, but the day after my first carb up, I broke out real bad especially on my body. What I am wondering is whether there is anything I can use that would be close to effective as dextrose post workout that won't spike my insulin so much? For instance could I take lower gi carbs, and r-ala instead or lower gi carbs, r-ala, and glutamine peptides like gplenish? Or is there any other carbs I can use instead? I wish I could continue with the dextrose but to be honest theres no point to have big muscle and a nice body if you have acne all over your face and body. I don't compete so I mostly just workout to feel good about my body, and to look better.

I can't really help you with the post workout carbs, but fish oil is really good for the skin. So, you might want to add this to your diet, if you haven't already.

well I have been taking flax oil and seeds, and I think it may have made the acne worse, but I was taking it at the same time as dextrose so i am not sure. I will get some fish oil instead. Anybody have any ideas about post workout nutrition?

I can completely understand where you're coming from. I had the worst time with my skin when I'm younger, and even today my skin remains very sensitive. Having been educated as both a nutritionist and, presently, as a sports nutritionist, I can tell you that without a doubt, what you eat shows up not just on your body, but on your skin as well. If I consumed dextrose I'd be a giant zit. I understand your postworkout concern. For my postworkout shake I include the following: plain whey isolate powder, high g.i. fruit (like frozen pineapple or banana or mango), some frozen berries, my creatine and glutamine and that's it. I leave out the EFAs for the postworkout shake. You will still have the same effect on your insulin levels without the aritificial dextrose. I really hope this works for you. I have had no bad effects consuming this shake at all and I've been doing this for about 10 years. Good luck. I know how awful it can be to feel self-conscious about something you have little control over. If I can help in anyway, please let me know.
