AB training? Lower abs B4 upper? With or without weight? How do you do it?

as far as core training sequence goes, I heard you should train lower back, obliques, lower abdominals, and then upper abs. biggest muscles to smallest muscles.

for instance:
good mornings
side bends with weight on one side
hanging leg/knee raises
crunches

I might give that a try...Or something similar.

casual is absolutely correct.

the rectus abdominus' main 2 jobs is isometric stabilization...as is the case with leg lifts while the hip flexors work, or concentric contraction resulting in the spine flexing as with a crunch. now if we talk about obliques, intercostals etc....we get into all the variations that involve side bending, twisting etc. its like saying....if we can do it all with a bench press, why do flyes, the answer: for VARIETY. stressing the abdominal/core unit through many motions and planes brings about a more functional approach and allows for transition between muscle groups. which results in a stronger overall "core".

for strict isolation's sake, a weighted crunch is probably one of the best choices for rectus abdominus. its not the end all be all of ab work....but for the "six pack" thats what we're talking about.

Casual, is that you in your AVATAR? Anyway let me know what you do for your ab workout. Also with abs and a good looking six pack it is true right that getting there is primarily diet. So do you spend a lot of time doing abs for a sport or just for looks and is your ab acheivement due to training the muscle or diet.

To get your abs stronger and bigger you have to work them like any other muscle, but if you want to see them you have to cut down your body fat alot, so if you want to see them youll have to wait until your next cutting stage.

Seriously, I haven't trained abs in months. It really is just luck and being lean. They do, however, have some residual size from when I trained them during my first two HST cycles. They were actually really responsive, so I stopped because I didn't want them to get too big.

Throw away your weight belt if you want some serious abs.

Agreed.

I have never used a belt ever. I don't need to train abs, as a result, and my core has never been a weakness.
