thanks bro! i bet 5000 on the padres
Peavy has awesome numbers
165Ks and only 31BB in 148IP
117 hits allowed for an awesome 1 BB&H per inning pitched
better than a K per inning and 5.5Ks/BB
cy young level numbers

by the way
those stats are the only figures you need to evaluate future pitching performance
ERA doesn't mean jack

dominance-measured as K/IP
control-measured as K/BB
the control figure is the most important
it measures how well a pitcher is placing his pitches
the whole game is to feed the batter an enticing pitch NOT in the zone
the best work the corners of the strike zone
e.g. greg maddux and orel hershiser in their prime

people wonder how a pitcher can walk a batter with the bases loaded
well that's the game
if in the full count he serves up a "strike zone" pitch then he is pitching to the batter's advantage
ideally he wants to serve a pitch that looks hittable and within the strike zone
but not
this is why many hitters are "caught looking"
at this level split second decisions are required by the batter
and against a high end pitcher with multiple "pitches" the batter has to anticipate the nature of the delivery in order to have a chance
the count serves to set up the "decisive" pitch
truly professional and disciplined hitters have patience to set up the decisive pitch

I will mention that if the pitcher has extraordinary skills(i.e. he can bring it with gas)he can consistently challenge a hitter in the strike zone and be effective
so long as his second pitch is effective
I mentioned Maddux and Hershiser earlier as the both of them are not particularily blessed
and yet they rank in the top 10 of the past 3 decades

i lost this one :(
I would have betas you did
philly got 3 in the first
w/o knowing the details I'd quess that their 4th or 5 position batter delivered
by getting 3 in the top of the first
philly's pitcher could settle down somewhat in what was a matchup against one of MLB's best
that matters
