5x5 chest workout

I've been doing the 5x5 chest workout for 2 weeks now.. its okay, but when do you stop is the question?

Week 1 : 215 . 5x5
Week 2 : 225 . 5x5

these are bench pressess..

When should I stop using the 5x5?

and should i switch it to the incline smith machine?

Well you shouldnt really stop until cease making progress in your lifts. So if you keep adding weight each week, and keep getting all your 5x5 then stick with it. And if you dont get it one week, dont sweat it, give it another go the following week at the same weight and you might surprise yourself. If you truly plateau, then there are variations you can implement to help break that plateau (ie. doing a 3x5 or a 5x3). I have played around in the past with switching the compound movement completely after exhausting all other possible variations and it was quite effective, however, I would give everything else a try before you decide to switch the movement entirely. Hope that helps, Im sure other 5x5'ers will chime in as well.

In fact after 2 weeks you have only done 2 times the chest, and of course you need to continue. You have a nice progress and you should continue as BlkWS6 said. I think 5x5 workout do not need to be changed until you cannot increase your weight for some weeks.

Oh yeah I just looked at your post again and I see that you went from 215lbs week one to 225lbs the following week, you gotta be careful with making 10lb jumps like that even when the weight feels easy. Grap those 2.5lb plates and slap them on the sides each week and you will continue to progress for a long time! If your weight increments are any larger you will stall out much faster.

thanks guys..
I guess week3, which will be this week on thursday or something
week 3 - 225 + 2(2.5) plates 5 x 5
week 4 - 225 + 2(5) plates 5 x 5.. i'll keep that up.. thanks guys..

No problem, good luck and keep us updated on how it is working for you. You have a lot of strength and progression to look forward to!!

Oh I totally didnt mean it in the way that you have far to go in terms of strength or anything along those lines (your numbers look just fine!) . I just meant that one of the joys of the 5x5 is getting stronger week after week and that is something to look forward to, I know I love it!!! :) Just wanted to clarify that if for some reason you took it the wrong way. Good luck with your training!
