wrist strength for deadlifts.. need help

thriller

New member
my wrist are stopping me from hitting as high of a weight as i should be. should i be doing exercises for my wrists or should i just let themm get stronger from other lifts.

so basicly should i want to do exercises to hit the wrists/hand.

your wrists? Do you mean grip strength, or your actual wrists? What happens, pain in the wrist?

I do db forearm curls after deads. Then after the curls, I hit the gripper. What kind of grip are you using? Are you wise to the overhand/underhand grip? I'm right handed (might make a difference, I dunno) and my left hand grips the bar underhand, while my right hand grips the bar overhand. I never used to use it when I first started deads, but when I did, well no matter what your strength, you can hold onto just about anything with this grip. Be careful, however, b/c the under/over grip stresses the biceps, so you have to move biceps to deads day. I just found this out a few weeks ago when my arms started to hurt.

assuming you mean 'grip' I can just say never use wraps or gloves. Dead with whatever you can and hold the lockout of the last rep for a while.

sorry im an idiot yes i did mean grip.

i never do biceps. (well i never isolate a muscle and i do upper body two days a week. my routine is going to change soon though)

thanks alot peeps.

I second what Thaibox said. (Although I use gloves, but never straps. But we don't want to go into that...:D )

One of the best exercises I have found for grip (as well as obliques for that matter) is one handed deadlift. Stand to the side of the bar, grip it in the center, and pick it up like you would a suitcase. Best to use single reps for this exercise. Work up as heavy as your grip can handle.

Really bombs the grip...

Do you lean over to pick it up, or squat down?
