Working out the Neck?

How can i workout my neck?...not my traps but my neck...the thing right under my head...my traps and the rest of my body is fine but i just want to get a thicker neck...

well i hope you guys have some ideas...thanx
 
shrugs will work the neck too....and they also make contraptions that fit on your head that let you use only your neck to move a free weight...look at a sporting good store....boxers use them
 
Good question. When people ask what is the most ignored muscle in the body, most people say forearms or calves. I thought I was the only one on this board who did neck work.

Anyway, some gyms will have a neck machine, which I use. That's the first thing to try out obviously, assuming there's one available.

There's another neck exercise you can do at home that football players and wrestlers do, but you have to ease into it. Get down on your knees and put the top of your head on a pillow in front of you. Put your hands on the floor to stablize yourself, and roll your head down on each side as if you were trying to touch your ears to the floor.

When you first start doing this, take it slow. Get your neck used to it. No jerking motions. Just go from ear to ear, putting more pressure as your neck strengthens. As you get stronger, you'll be off your knees and up on your feet, but still using your hands for stability, balance. Give it a try. Good luck bro!
 
that will work

we use to do that every stinking day at practice

it sucked when I first started.... but try it like this

do what he said about going slow from ear to ear...

start on your knees and hands
as you get stronger...... get up on you feet...... its ok for your body to look like at upside down v

when you get stronger........... put your hands behind your back

and when your very strong...... have your hands behind your back and the only bend in your body should be your neck and your feet........ so it looks like your body is flat.

then when you can call yourself the man and do that............
put your hands down and flip over.......... and do the same thing just on the back of your head.

also.......... find out what a sternocleiod mastitoid is and learn how to work it
 
I have never seen this done... Put your forehead on the pillow and roll your head left then right to touch your ears?

lay on a flat bench with your head hanging over the edge, fold a towel and put it on your forehead, put a plate on top of the towel and stabilize it with your hands. then slowly lower your head and raise it. dont use your arms to move the weight and start off with about 10lbs until you get the hang of it. this will work the front of your neck, you can work other parts by laying on your stomach or side.
