Will chest size decrease bench stroke???

Hey guys I havn't had much time lately to post on here but I was wonderin somethin yesterday when benching. I know as PL's we don't do chest work besides every now and then illegal wides. But is there a way to make your chest bigger. See the way I see it or I saw it yesterday was if I make my chest 5 inches bigger thats 5 inches less of a bench stroke I have to push. So i'll go from 23 inch stroke to 18 which really just an inch would make a difference. What I want to know is what can I do to make my chest bigger.

PLJay I've met you and I know you have a huge chest what can I do on bench days to gain size in my chest. And then after I know what excercise what setsXreps should I use. and heavy or light weight. never cared much about size until now that I figure it'll help my stroke go down a few inches.

Thanks

build up your pectoral muscles.. . One thing else that i found helped thicken my chest, was dumbell pull overs, and breather squats. I heard they expand the rib cage or something.

If that doesnt work, you could always take a nice size chunk out of your forearm to shorten your bench stroke.

Thickening your back up, so that your erectors are giant ropes and your traps are elevated platforms, ought to raise you up some too. Keep in mind that your traps run half way down your back...that part up by your neck is the least of the traps. Just pinching your shoudler blades together on the bench ought to work wonders.

Well i was going to say the same as spatterson about back. You need to thicken up the middle of your back. So doing lat work do soem with close grips and pull low. That hits there. Also deadlifting will do wonders for thickness. But if you doing my bench routine you will get a big chest. Alot bigger then doing speed one day and stuff thenext. My pecs get trainied prettyhard. But as slow as it itakes to just get big, you need to really focus on lats and back. Hell that pushes your body close to the bar, just like chest would.

Depends on where you bring the bar down to. As mine hits just below the xiphoid process, it is striking about 4-3/4 inches below my pecs, but then I bring the bar really low.

If you arch heavily, thicking the middle or lower back will not do as much to shorten your stroke as much as thicking the upper back, traps, posterior delts, rhomboids, teres major, etc.

Of course, and this is just for Spatts, if you bring the bar down to your stomach, it is pretty easy to get that to grow.

Big chest equals shorter stroke. No doubt about it. I have a pretty big chest for my height, and it definately helps having a stopping point higher off the bench. I don't know what to tell you to make your chest a lot bigger that has not already been said. Train flat bench a lot, go hard, heavy and often on upper back movements, and hope your ribs grow. Training makes a difference, but honestly, a big chest is often just a case of having big ribs.

Well I know I have to work lats and back thats an obvious I mean look at my bench form how close I am, If I could just widen up I would do good, BUT I tried widening up I go down 60lbs on my bench when I go wider. So I don't wanna get weaker instead of stronger.

Now as for chest, if getting a bigger chest does help shorten it which I already knew, I mostly wanted responses like ok do this incline DB's for 3 sets of 6 or something like that ?????Does anyone know anything that will help like this or other things???? thanks

Deciever about the implants I said I wanted a big chest, NOT FUCKING GIANT MELON TITS :p

I guess that practicing and working on a big arch could help cut down the distance of the bench press a lot.

I think that pecs grow from any kind of bench press or variation including board presses, floor presses, etc.

Put one hand on your pec and press with the free hand you will feel your pec contract even if you press it low so your pecs should automaticy grow from the DE and ME days.

A lot of the bench press is mental. If you think that you have a long distance and you let that get to you then you need to change this. Jay said he has a 70' inch reach measured like a boxer and look how well he does. Mine is 78' but I dont ever let that get me down either cause its psychological.

Besides the aformenioned lat and upper back work you must say fuck itI don't care how long I have to go cause I will press that weight up and you can make those long arms work in your favor in deadlifting and its cool to be able to help hot chicks reach the stuff on top shelf in the grocery store (happened to me) just make sure that you don't have a sweatstain on your armpit area of your shirt lol!

I have a rather large chest for no bigger than I am. The only thing I ever did to make it bigger was flat bench. Incline would help too!

OK thanks for all the replys guys, I was looking at my back today and it could use ALOT of work to get THICKER then that will decrese a lil, and about the DL with long arms I know that's why I like DL's I'm good at them it's sweet. I might just try for 3 weeks or something doing incline DB presses and throw them in every once in a while.

I don't have a thick chest......but I've been working a lot on my arc...and have noticed that I can cut the travel just by pinching my shoulders and keeping my foot placement further back - which in turn keeps my butt stuck on the bench - but my weakness is off the chest so I've been trying to find ways to cut the travel because I'm a fairly small build, work on the arc and the travel will decrease..I roll on a pvc pipe to stretch my back out, seems to help some.

Also consider that some of the best benchers EVER were not short guys at all. I dont know their arm length measurements but check out their heights;

Here is the approx heights

Bill Kazmeyer about 6'2 or taller
Glen Cabot 6'2
George Halbert 5'11

And they could be three of the best ever and they are tall.

So make those long arms work in your favor! blast that bench!!
