Why does everyone bench half way?

The same reason they swing their whole body when they curl, bounce the weight off their chest, never go deeper than a quarter squat, etc.. Their ego. They will always rationalize it, too. "It's dangerous to go down more". Poppycock.

This is sloppy form and is a one way ticket to an injury. . .focus on using weights that you can use for good form. Seems like you are more preoccupied with heavy weight rather than clean form

Raising your ass is a big no no in competition.

Jolly, keep your ass on the bench, raising the ass is a COMPLETE butchering of form. If you raise your ass on a bench, you're not really benching.
 
Are we talking about half-way up or half-way down? If half way down then that is pathetic (assuming no injury or other med reason). If half way up, then aren't we just talking about partial reps? I don't use them but I thought they had an established purpose.
 
im doing it to get my bench up it helps believe me! its called wsb training! the same goes for box squats to helps you get used 2 the heavy weight and bring your lifts up so no its not just for ego

Just wait until you overstrain a lumbar or tear a pec. This is no legit way of training and if you have to justify why you use pathethic form. . .its time to learn how to train properly.
 
arching back with my ass off the bench like half an inch is bad?

I use my upper back to push, ...it feels fine to me

also i have always done this, never hurt myself once
 
Even with a bad shoulder i still try to get as close to my chest as possible. Halfway is not the way to do it!

also... KEEP YER ARSE ON TEH BENCH
