Why do they close and lock threads around here?

I think the mods here are all just completely out of control. They should all be shot.

I agree........ I myself prefer to lock threads randomly & with no real reason to keep everyone guessing as to what the hell is actually going on.......

It's a year old thread!

That's not a good reason.

In the case of the 1 year old thead that I wanted to post to, would the powers to be want me to start another thread with the same title? I mean, as opposed to using the "old one."

I've been on other boards where I dusted an old thread off and put it back on radar. And sometimes it generated alot of interest.

I really don't see the point in locking non-flammatory thread, non-hostile threads. That's a damn good way of suppressing speech, debate, board activity, and the most important thing of all: information sharing.

Nope. It's spam. One person decides to bump 15 threads in 1 minute posting nothing but one word on each of them - it's spam.

That's a seperate category and an entirely different one at that. There are some people who will post a question or a statement to a thread. That question or statement, unlike a one word "bump," will include a premise.

That's a huge difference. Where as the bump is a meaningless, fairly incoherent-like one word non-sequitir, the question or statement might lead to good information sharing. I have never seen a message board lock threads based on the assumption that people are gonna go crazy and bump threads.

But have you ever seen a message board where people go crazy and bump threads? It's not an exact science brother - and it's easy to talk about it when you are not on "this" side of things. And you know what? A lot of times it's a judgement call. Personally, I know who the members are that do things simply to get a rise out of people or to piss off mods/admin or because mommy took her tit away a little too soon when they were a child. And I have NO problems preempting their childish behavior by acting on their initial move. Such is life. We ain't splitting atoms here.

The situation you described does deserve moderator intervention, but I take exception to threads being locked just because they're old and being bumped by less popular members. I've now had 3 of my own threads get locked over the last few months almost as soon as I bumped them.
