Why do they close and lock threads around here?

I understand that some threads are shut down due to all the flaming. But others don't have a trace of fire and they shut them down anyway. WTF?
That's annoying as hell when you want to get information or add information. Why, why, why I ask you?

Since when do we need a good reason to bump old threads? I bumped one of my own old threads a while back and it got locked. That's just abusive and arbitrary.

Nope. It's spam. One person decides to bump 15 threads in 1 minute posting nothing but one word on each of them - it's spam.
