Why do nutritionists say to stay away from sugar and starches

Then tell you to eat fruits & vegetables? Fruits are sugar and vegetables are starches. What the fuck kind of reasoning is this? Fructose (in fruit) is a sugar. Perhaps different from high fructose corn syrup or sucrose but a sugar nontheless. Most vegetable carbs come from starches last time i checked too.

ANd what kind of carbs do they want people to eat, fiber? "Sugar & starches" constitutes most/all carbs. Sugars are simple carbs, starches are long carb chains. Thats like saying 'dont breath quickly or slowly', what else is there.

maybe i missed something.

As far as refined vs whole carbs, so what? Watermelon has a GI of about 103, refined pasta has a GI of 34 or so. Milk sugar (lactose) has a GI of 28.

Generally the fruits are lower in carbs, and the carbs are relatively low GI (40-60 range) and they are high in fiber but so are some refined carbs. What is the difference.

What they should say is processed sugar and starches.

Basically you shouldn't eat anything out of a box.
