Shake his hand? No. I saw him in 2002. Security was strict due to 9/11. It was in the Vatican, he was speaking. People in the audience from different countries were acknowledged, stood up and cheered for him. Not sure what it was. Couldn't understand him. They wheeled him out. It took him about 5 minutes to walk 20 feet. Poor guy.
