Who's in Florida???

Mylife, UM is OK, but you are right about the cost effectiveness issue & though they have a well known football team I'm not sure its THE best place for academic repute---but again, its not the worst either. If you wanted an international MBA & your goal was specifically to crack into one of the major companies with a Latin American focus then it wouldnt be bad. A cheaper alternative is FIU (the public university in Miami): this is a large (40-50,000 students) research institution with VERY reputable programs BUT outside FL, Latin America & the Caribbean no one has heard of it. I understand UF is starting an MBA satellite program in the area---but the state schools will really nail you with out-of-state tuition---but it would still be cheaper than UM.

actually i'm in PBC so i don't have to worry about out-of-state costs. UF is my first choice but I haven't received an acceptance letter. should be hearing back any day now.

did you attend the WMC in miami this year by chance?

Dude if you are local & you are looking into grad school for business, you should look into the UF satellite MBA program. If youre an undergrad I think you'd probably like FIU better than FAU---it would be worth it to pop down the turnpike and look around the U Park campus.

Whats WMC? I guess you can infer from my question that I didn't attend ; )

Cheers

Have any of you guys in FL ever bought a car from a Maroone dealership? Someone told me they lure you in with deceptive ads & then stick it to you on the rear end with "document" and "dealer" fees, etc. Any experiences with them?

i'm still an undergrad and am planning on moving to gainesville to complete my bachelor's. FAU sucks, just a big diploma factory where 80% of the student body commutes. i'd definitely go to FIU over FAU, but hopefully it doesn't come down to that.

WMC = winter music conference. huuuuuge techno conference with venues all over south beach. i'm not a fan of techno but i caught a bartending gig at "south beach's biggest pool party" and had the time of my life.

where do you party in LoddyDoddy?

I bought a used 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee from Maroone and bought the extended warranty for it. Whenever I brought it in when it was having problems they would really give me a hard time about getting it fixed. At one point they had it for 2 wks saying it needed a new engine and didnt do a damn thing to it but an oil change because they say they were trying to get the warranty to cover the repair. I demanded it back and drove it for 6 more months w/ no problems and eventually traded it in for a Hemi Magnum somewhere else.. Maroone's big in SFL but I would never go there again.

Mylife--I might be telling you something you already know, but FIUs U. Park campus is near Coral Gables/UM & their Biscayne campus ain't far from South Beach & that area, so if you wanted to fart around for 4 years....

Dawookie--I ran across some great prices on some late model used cars online at Maroone, but (1) I'm thinking it might be bait & switch, (2) I think they'll hose you in the fine print with "undercoating", doc fees & such shit, & (3) everybody I know whose bought from them says they suck with customer service

Gettinkrunked--u got kkkarma ; )

FIU sucks...I went there, both campuses. I'm probably going back but since my career is going pretty well i'm gonna go part time to finish up.
Quality of teachers is terrible and the campus life is garbage. There's never any parking (at least in university park, which is the real campus).

Biscayne bay campus is close to my house but it's too quiet for my liking and they don't have many classes. I like going to school and meeting people and socializing. Everyone just goes, takes their classes and leaves. And..most of the people who go to FIU are fuckin weird or just typical miami sketchy.

miami is awesome. i want to transfer to UM for the social and cultural aspects but it's too expensive for the quality of education.

if i can't find work in manhattan i'll probably end up in miami. san fran would be tight too but it's a dying city.

Miami is a love and hate relationship. I live on miami beach, which i do like in alot of ways. But there are so many downfalls to the city.

-All the people here suck unless they're not from miami or latin america. Almost all my friends are from the tri-state area or other parts of the country. Everyone else is so snobby and wrapped up with themselves trying, to be rich when they're really not...especially in south beach. Speaking of which, south beach isn't even nice anymore. Half of the time, especially on the weekends it's influxed with all the ghetto black people ruining my backyard. It's 100x worse on memorial day, spring break or anything relating to hip hop (and i love hip hop!). The classy south beach died when it became a spring break/rapper spot.

-The drivers are THE worst in the united states. Hands down.

-Half of the people don't speak english, and look at you funny because you don't speak THEIR language.

Positives...the women are beautiful (but mostly all golddiggers), weather is great, scenery is nice, lots of stuff to do...pretty good place to solidify my career.

I don't see myself living here for more than a couple of years. Too many negatives to outweigh the positives.
