when is the BEST time to measure BF%?

before or after a workout? on a training or non-training day?

i usually have a coffee, water and protein shake pre workout...would this affect the results?
 
I think the key is to do it under similar circumstances every time to maintain consistency. You'd probably get a better reading if it was first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, but if you get it done the next time at the end of the day after dinner, you'd get inconsistent (or misleading) results. Just my assumption...

I usually do it after work, before my workout.

Also, if you are using calipers and just starting out, you can use a permanent magic marker and put 2 dots where the calipers touch the skin (places that won't be noticeable when dressed). Though it isn't necessary to measure every day, do it every day anyway just to "learn" where you are placing the calipers each time, as a 1/2 inch one way or another can sometimes make a big difference in your readings. Each time you do it, retouch the dots with the marker so they won't fade. You will get very consistent readings and eventually won't need the dots...:D

Good advice, Radical Ice. I'm watching my quad measurement the most right now, and I measure my quad each time and take the skinfold reading at a specific measurement.

Rez - I know you're doing a cyclical diet as well, so I recommend doing it the morning of your carb load, right after you get up and before you eat or drink. This way, you're at your lowest water retention point. If you're using the scale, this is the only time I'd weigh as well.
