Whats the better cardio...

I usually do cardio on a cross trainer for 30 minutes a day and burn ~430 calories. I heard that doing things like sprints that keep your heart rate high for shorter periods of time is better. Whats going to burn more calories out of all the cardio excercies and machines? I know it'll be hard to be 430 in 30 minutes.

First of off...

Glad to see you around!!!!!!

Second...I hope that someone that knows something about cardio can help you.

Any type of cardio that gets your heart rate up will burn calories. Your cross-trainer is as good as anything for that.

Sprints however, in whatever form they take, will also burn calories and are great for building leg strength and speed, but they're not ideal for fat burning.

From my personal perspective,

sprints and hard intervals are the best cardio.

unless you are training for a endurance event.

When cutting I do 20 mins of cardio 3 days a wk.

10 min warmup. then I increase on the treadmill every 30 seconds till i am about 9.5 for my last interval.. 3 mins cool down.

I wear a heartrate monitor and like to warmup at 130-150 and sprint at 180-190....... max hr= 220-age= I am 25 200-25=195

I have read and agree that it releases a significant amount of gh, on par with sets of squats.....

Do not skimp on postworkout meals......... otherwise you will lose too much muscle and look very deflated.

I've been back on the board for a couple weeks, I just havent really posted anything. Been getting things ready to start college Thursday and getting ready for my personal trainer certification tests this weekend.

Sprints will give you lots of leg strength and build those things up. I like to either ride to bike, elliptical machine, or jog on the tread slowly for 10 minutes, then increase. Great burn after a leg workout!! :)

Hey,
As far as fat burning goes, sprinting does not burn fat. Reason why sprinters loook goos is because sprinting builds a lot of mucsle, but if youre looking to brun fat i found that joggin distance is the best way. Ive tried everything and I mean evyerthing, jogging kicks ass as soon as you wake up in the morning.
