Can you practice speaking in front of large groups before the show somehow? Like a presentation for work, etc? And going to the location ahead of time to see if maybe you can walk around on stage? They should be able to let you into the building just to walk around- you could even let them know why you want to walk around. Just stand there and get a feel for the entire building, seating, stage size, run around, and just get to know the stage and entire area. I think I remember you telling me where the show is, and they are SUPER nice people over there!
Ya think? But, practice being in front of large groups, talking, etc... being the center of attention.
Seriously, there's no other way to deal w/ that than just do it. I used to be painfully shy until I got a teaching assistant job in college & had to teach Univ. Physics to non-calculus architecture majors older than me. I'd go to class, do the class then go home & break down for a 20 min cry just from all the stress. Eventually I just got it beat out of me. Peeps accept you as you are. If they don't, fuck em.
Plus honestly, when you are on stage w/ the lights & all , you really can't see much of the audience anyway.
I'm gonna put myself out there between then and now. I even choke up in One on One situations.. EX. doing a PT course I had to do a mock session with one of the girls.. OMG.. I thought I would hyperventilate.
I have a ton of work to do between then and now. And I know one way or another I HAVE to get up there and just do it.
I'm gonna prolly feel a little better after I go and observe your show Sassy... Be able to get more of a feel for what is expected of me.
Ok.. Like serioulsy my stomach is in KNOTs right now thinking about it.
I used to have to do shows in front of thousands of people daily. Just make sure you are prepared as possible to build confidence- I am talking about things like very comfortable shoes, outfit that fits perfectly, great hair, knowing the stage. It will HELP greatly. Then BREATHE, BREATHE. BREATHE, and work it.
Frisky, Why don't you come down up to north LA and do the show w/me on June 11!!! It is not as big as your show and it will get you ready for your show. I did 2 my first year competing and the second show was much more relaxing as I knew alittle more, not much.
Just let me know and I can get you the info about the show It would be fun to have a buddy to do the show with!!
heehee this thread has gotten funny... sassy I luv ya!! another thing to do frisky is to practice or meditate your routine in your mind over and over again... visualizing your routine and posing… I know it sounds weird but I have done this since I was a child with my skating routines… Watching yourself mentally doing everything perfect helps the confidence… and will put you at ease… but also like the other ladies have said the lights up there are so bright you really don’t see anyone else… and if you can practice those mediation techniques you can actually block everyone else out…
