What should you do when returning to the gym after a long rest period?

Im in this position, as i have to do other MAJOR things ...so when i return to the gym in afew months what should i do? do my usual workouts as i left off or start something new?
 
I went back doing one of my typical workouts, but I did allot of warming up and stretching....also cut most of my lifts by 40%.
 
Just because you are taking time off doesn't mean that you are changing your body on some profound physiological level. Your muscles will atrophy and probably your CNS will become less adapted to lifting heavy weights. But once you come back, your body will still respond and adapt to the weights the way it used to. Maybe just go a little easier on it in the beginning to get used to the weight again.
