Welcome to the industry - that is exactly what people go there to see. And frankly I bet lots of those girls enjoy the chance to wear those outfits. A huge attraction to the fitness / physique arena is exactly that "LOOK AT ME!!!" mindset.

Helps promote her website, I know...but I would have looked at her if she were wearing a paper bag. :D I just think a sexy sports bra and short shorts would have been better than a stripper dress with a neckline down to her belly button (and might I add, she has no cleavage) and 9 inch stilletos.

I have nothing against stripper clothes, btw. It just seemed out of place, more than anything.

I had a pic of her om my computer. duh. this one is better.

What do you do to stand out when you are in a SEA of these peeps? All pro-tanned and lasix-d out, big hair, too much makeup and just short of being naked is what you do... Hey, I am not passing judgment at all. Hello - do ya'll remember that pic of me at the 2002 Arnold's IN THE THONG?!

I started out in LONG PANTS as did Valentina. After about an hour of NO ATTENTION (We were there to promote ourselves and a circle of sites we belonged to as well as our own sites so attention was key.) we felt forced to strip to next to nothing. Valentina had a skimpy top and booty short and I had a skimpy top and thong on. I suppose I felt the need to compensate as my tits were not hanging out enough.

I am not even exaggerating.

lolol

ok. I see your point.

I'm not knocking anyone for what they wear. you all know me well enough. I don't wear anything 1/2 the time.

You and Sass have given me a viewpoint I was oblivious to before.

Hello kettle - THIS IS POT! ;)

Having sais that - there is a time and a place for everything and we all make our own choices and thusly have to accept the consequences if there be any.

I have ALWAYS been aghast by female competitors who were all painted up and dressed up like tacky 2$ street-walkers whether live or in photo. I felt that it hurt all of us.

But now you see why sometimes women in these positions feel that it is almost a must. Good God - there was one promo we were doing where our booth was directly next to MUSCLE ELEGANCE! I was walking around during a break and I looked at the publication (I was totally ignorant to the seedier side of the fitness industry.) and lo and behold there was this mag that was nothing more than porn for bodybuilders! There were these women with AMAZING PHYSIQUES sitting there buck nekkid with their hoohas spread wide (again, no exaggeration) for the whole world to see. We aren't talking playboy here, we are talking raunchy porn!

I was HORRIFIED. Here I am, Bikinimom and Valentina Chepiga sitting in a booth next to THE MOST DISGUSTING publication associated with women and fitness. (Can you tell, we had a GREAT agent. )

I have to say that of all the pics over all the years, Monica Brandt (just one name that always come to mind - she is also a lovely woman as well) was ALWAYS a class act. Never did I see her on all four with her legs spread and tongue hanging, no 2$ street walker outfits either. Always very sexy and feminine but NEVER taudry or cheap. Sadly, the same can not be said for the majority of women associated with fitness and I think it has less to do with taste and character and more to do with women doing things that they normally wouldnt do unless they felt almost as if they "had to" in order to succeed - plain misguided and mismanaged.

there was a big story on Denise Masino and www.muscleelegancemag.com in an issue of MD last year. I admire her for plowing her own road and standing up for what she wants, but I also think that any association with that mag or bb porn hurts a woman's IFBB or NPC comp career.

Melissa Detwiller, for instance. She's got a really nice physique - but I never see her place very high. Is it because she hasn't quite gotten her shit together for the stage, or is it because her ass and hooha are plastered all over the internet?

Melissa finished 3rd in her class at the Jr Nats... very very competitive group too. I'd consider that pretty respectable for someone who has only hit the national level in the last 2 yrs or so. She presents very nicely and she's had a lot of coverage in the muscle mags. Any BB who continues to get coverage in muscle mags is probably going to have some racy stuff somewhere on line. Though I will concede that Melissa has one of the racier collections of "stuff" online. The only thing I might hold against her in her presentation is the newer boobage redo - a bit overwhelming proportionally speaking.

Personally I think the value of the FBB placings has gone down in the commerical world tho -- regardless of who won, they are rarely marketable simply by their size. Figure / fitness has a commercial value - FBB doesn't. Therefore the judging may be less of a big deal, though at the same time it may also be less political.

Great thread. This is a very interesting read. Over here in Oz it is not that tough and not that raunchy. I guess that's why there are no top BB's from Oz over there. I'm not sure if that changes once the women from here go International. Not many make it over there to compete as the sponsorship here is not forthcoming. It is far to expensive for anyone to go there without finacial backing. There is no prize money here and we do it for the love of doing it. It is an expensive sport and most girls here only compete every 2 yrs due to costs.
I love reading about how the industry works over there and hope this gives me advanced knowledge if I ever make it to International level. The indusry here is far from the level of competition you have there.
I have this pic of a girl who competed in the State level last year and was nowhere ready for comp at all. Her trainer must have been insane.
Here is the pic............
