not recommended unless you take responsibility for yourself
What I'm going to add should only be considered as a last resort, the only reason i include it is because in my life, it came to that, and if a few of you are in the same boat, this may be worth thinking about
the reason i consider this a "last resort" is because as others have alluded to, it is far better to modify your emotional habits by changing the way you see food or to eat nutritiously (since hunger often indicates nutritional need) than to use anorectics to blunt your hunger....but being a person who has military discipline yet still failed due to my insatiable appetite, and having exhausted all other natural options, i saw myself using this option...
if you use it, do as i and plan a begin and end time to use it as the only thing worse than using drugs as anorectics is becoming dependent on them (which also means if you are an addictive personality, don't even consider these options)....
for background, i used to have an appetite so fierce that i could consume 7000 calories a day without flinching... i saw a doctor and he prescribed medications but none worked, he believed i had an emotional problem, but i've always had a healthy ego and so attitude adjustments didn't help...
then i discovered that some of the pills i took to induce thermogenesis would leave a taste like ass in my mouth, and natural vitamins would also leave an aftertaste that would pretty much make the thought of food nauseate me... the trick was to eat them on an empty stomach, which like aspirin would cause enough upset stomach to do the trick (a nasty way to do it, but for me, it was the only option at the time)....
my doctor nearly passed out when i told him what i was doing, but he couldn't argue with the results, but even he wouldn't recommend anything except the vitamins
(it's called association, a common psychological trick where you teach yourself to associate certain feelings to certain stimuli) In the case of food, the thought of a pizza after tasting a nasty natural vitamin would make the pizza less appetizing.
i then discovered that many pills have this effect, so i used them to train myself away from a large appetite...
penicillin and amoxicillin are powerful, but since you only use them when you need them, i don't recommend using them unless you have been prescribed them.
natural vitamins and other herbal remedies which had nasty aftertastes were in my opinion the best for this purpose because at least i was taking something good for my health while blunting my appetite...
glucophage (used by some to induce ketosis) is one of the most potent anorectics while on an empty stomach, as it would kill my appetite completely for half a day, but sometimes would induce a bit too much nausea for me to handle it... also, glucophage (metformin) has risks (as do all drugs), so read up on it, and don't use it unless you already are familiar with it (the risks are statistically tiny, but they are there nonetheless, so read read read)
ephedrine and caffeine were also excellent anorectics as they would also kill my appetite to the point that i would have to remind myself to eat (which i did regularly because you don't want to miss meals either as this will also make you hungry)... as a matter of fact, for a quickie, i would drink black coffee as it also killed my appetite....
as you can tell, i never included dexatrim, fiber, or anything else not because they don't work (they work, just not for me), but because my hunger was way past that.... even prescription appetite suppresants did nothing for me...
once again, Take responsibility for yourself before considering this and research and use with caution i would only offer this info because there may be a few folks who have appetites as fierce as mine was... i studied the medications i took, i also made sure to eat regularly, and eat nutritiously and drink plenty of water and vitamins (its stupid to diet and not eat nutritionally dense foods).... so:
work - occupy your mind ... this can work
eat healthy - hunger is often a sign of a need for nutrition
eat regularly - hunger is also a result of irregular eating patterns
and only if these fail should you consider the options i mentioned, and even then, research research research....
as for me, i trained my appetite such that i no longer have a ravenous appetite, so i don't really have a need for any of those drugs... which was part of my goal
and as for food, i still looooove pizza, i just don't crave it when i shouldn't be eating it ...
