someone is talking to you about something and one of the details of what they are talking about are important to know about and they mention something that you either have never heard of or don't understand how it works or how you should use it.

Do you:

A) just ask them, what is this, how, when, where, etc

B) make a mental note and try and research and figure it out on your own

C) pretend you know what they are talking about and you actually believe that you do and just wing it because you really just don't give a shit anyway.

A. At least at work that's what I do. The general policy when dealing with as much money as I deal with is cover your ass. I'll gladly wing it with things that aren't related to my job. Nothing shy of perfect is okay at work though.

Depends on whether I can stand talking to the person or not. Typically A because I always have wanted to know how everything works. Then again if the person is annoying it's a definite C.

I agree, that is what I do also.

if its important for me to know, my answer is kind of all three.
i often don't give a shit, but that never stopped me from doing my work or helping someone anyway, so i'll usually just yes them to death, then go look it up. and if that doesn't help, I'll call back and ask for a clarification.

in the end, i usually still don't give a shit, but I've gotten it done.

For work related items I do either A or B or sometimes both and lately I've been doing a lot of A because it well, saves me time just to ask.

In social situations - I've really become so selfish with my time that when someone is talking and I know I have no interest whatsoever or I'm day dreaming of way to get this person to just stop talking I will just find a reason to excuse myself.

i usually just stare off into space with my mouth open and then they'll finish talking and there will be a long, very akward silence and finally she'll clear her throat or kick my shin and i'll go: "Oh, uh, i could really go for a Pepsi right now."
