I brought the kid that lives across the street from me into the gym last night. He's 14 and I've been teaching him a bit about what to do. We just switched up his routine to add deads.
Trust me, I'd love to toss the straps...but they have allowed me to move my weights up. I use them as a tool, not a crutch...only when I have to (and no, not for every set). I struggled with this before and my ego (along with several others...) prevented me from trying them.
When I am doing reps, my grip really gives out...even if I switch up my grip. I tried using gloves, but my hands are so small that the padding in the gloves made the bar even harder to hold on to due to the thickness.
Needsize recommended that I do grip work...ya'll say chalk (or rosin) and I just want to pull more weight!
I tell you what, I'll pick up a rosin bag this week and give it a shot -- but I'm not going to part with my straps just yet...I have my heart set on 250... <---me and my straps!
power cleans have helped. i think the explosive/ballistic nature of the clean has a positive carryover to maxing on deadlift. of course im a fat slob at 5-10, 200 pds. would love to get 500 at 185.
well she got her rosin bag. so we'll see soon. there are a couple diff diameter bars in the gym. the smaller diameter one is knurled with what seems like metal spikes. hehe. it tears my hands and legs UP BAD. but its hard to drop, thats for sure.
