Westside... A Gimmick??

Well, in that pic in my avatar...I am 6'2", 285lbs with good signs of abs (in that pic anyway) and I am one of the top amat strongman competitors in the United States. Probably the top 300lber in the nation.

That was me in my avatar...and just give the farmers a whirl...with 305 in each hand, flipping an 800lb tire for 100 feet, doing a 700lb yoke walk for 100 feet, doing a 400+ lb atlas stone, deadlifting 607 without a belt or straps or suit, and doing an overhead standing log press with 275 for 5 reps in 75 sec.

Dude either way your stil huge I prob couldn't move that wheel 1 ft. Well maybe but you get my point. OK I get your point your huge, but I wasn't trying to like flame you if that's what your getting at. Hey I was wondering do you do log cleans???? Are these like regular powercleans or they take more tech.???

Well...it is just harder to do the log clean, especially with a smaller log. If you have a 10-14" log...it just rolls right up your chest from your knees. With a small log...it is very hard and takes a lot of bicep strength.

I do standing log clean and presses a lot. They are hard to press, the log wants to go back over your head, grip is close and palms facing.

Don't ever let someone convince you that you could do more weight if you did it their way. You have to find your own stance and stick with it. Don't be afraid to change it a bit from time to time but no two people are going to get the same results by switching technique.

Deciever: Continue with your original plan of training westside and if you get the chance train with IRBD.

On my first outing on Westside I managed to increase my dead by 85lbs and my squat by 65lbs, these results speak for themselves.

Good luck.

How tall are you by the way?

Something just occured to me... from what people have said it seems that Westside seems to help your squat/deadlift moreso than your bench.

Is this wrong... it's the impression I'm getting from what various people have said. Same thing happened to me as well.

The thing about Westside is...YOU have to find that exercise that will put 50lbs on your bench press. YOU have to find it...no one else can say do this or do that...YOU must find it. A lot of people pick the exercises that they are good at for their ME days...and they do not get stronger. You must do the exercise that you are weak at for ME day...or you will NOT get stronger.

Franco, im 5'5 1/2 . im pretty short.. i hope i can get all the results that everyone else is getting.. when i finish planning my westside routine i'll post it up....

and to anyone who can answer... could i do flat dumbell press as a ME exercise?

str8man- im def. not changing my stance, it works for me. He tries to use the argument that "it places stress un evenly on the muscles in a sumo stance " "its proven that your strongest with your legs shoulder with a part " " it may work for you now, but in the long run its just going to hurt you"

i think im gonna try convincing him to train westside with me.. so i can really show him what it is

b fold you have a point this time around with my training I changed it up a lil then the first 6 weeks I did. for my lift days I have 3 excercises or ME excercises to pick from and like at WSB in OH what I've done is whatever I really don't feel like doing I'll do. The first 6 weeks I really liked DB Elbow outs so I did for 2 weeks on 2 off then 2 on again instead of completely changing this time round whatever I don't feel like doing that day I'll do to put those 50lbs on my bench.
