Well I Did the Sport Bike Group Ride This Weekend Totally Different than Harleys.

I finally made the time to make the sunday ride with sport bike bunch. What a trip and how different than riding with Harleys. Where harley dudes will only take up one lane riding staggered these dudes take off the whole freeway bunched all up. I mean these dudes are the new Hells Angels on the road. There were 30 or so of us going dow the road and these guys are organized they have two bike about 3/4 to a mile a head of the bunch and then 2 or 3 that hang back about 1/4 mile to look for the law. Then the guys in the middle take up all three lanes on the freeway. Then about 12 or 15 slow to about 42mph while the other guys(eight to ten riders) ride the most radical wheelies I have ever seen done on the freeway. I mean for at least a mile sometime. The whole time unless somebody slaps the top of their helmet which means there are cops either in front or behind.

The best rider in the group that could do the tank wheelies had his farring totally smashed off his pipe hanging by a thread and missing most of the plastic around the bike and only a 600. Man he would go around turns doing a wheelie. It was a strange feeling for me because I am usually the stunt rider or the crazy one with my chopper crowd. I will do the laybacks, stand on the seat ride saddle ect. But I totally felt inadequate with the skill level of these dudes. I wonder if it is a good thing for me continue to ride with them because I would eventually have to learn how to do the freeway wheelies because I am competitive. And I saw a few of their scars from them learning their trade.

Two of the dudes(that wore helmets) had good looking chicks on the back and they were popping wheelies with them wearing no helmets wearing flip flops. Which I didn't think was real safe or smart after seeing what happened to my friend that the girl fell off the back of his bike going down the freeway and was killed. I mean they would definetely charge the dudes with manslaughter if one of those girls were to fall off. Maybe when I get to know the group better I will give him this piece of advice.

IT was a total trip though I mean so many bikes totally taking over the freeway like they owned it and going crazy the whole time. I'll tell you what nothing looks cooler than a sport bike going down the freeway totally vertical with the dude standing on the rear pegs.

They are meeting again this wednesday to do the night stunt ride. Which I am pretty sure is even going to be more dangerous and radical. This one dudes wanted to mount a headlight to the bottom of his bike so he can see where he is going when he wheelies at night. I need to find out where to get those metal shoes so I can at least jump off the side of the bike throwing sparks. Anybody know where to get those?

clinging to youthful dreams?

on a different tip, sportbikes are becoming very popular in middle eastern coutries...they make excellent sucide bombers

On a related note, have you paid your last life insurance premium?
Dont worry bruh, I took out a policy on him and my premium payments are current.

remember to fill out your organ donor card!

Its stupid fucks like this that makes insurance here go up all the damn time on bikes.

Sometimes I really envy curling. He's always having fun.

I agree...while his middle aged comrades are sweating out some bullshite family function, curling is out busting wheelies with 18 yr olds...serene ignorance, I admire it.

This is precisely the reason people don't like motorcyclists in general. Also why I refuse to ride with guys on sport bikes.

Oh well Darwin willing they will weed themselves out of the population soon enough.

Cheers,

There was a couple in their 20s as well. As far as the age thing you are as young as you feel. I am sorry some of ya'll aged before your time. I am glad though that I didn't start doing this until now because if I did start in my 20's I would be probably be dead. It was thrilling though.

Can you do those freeway wheelies dude?

I know it might not be the most mature thing to do what we did sunday but man it sure was fun it was like a modern day holister rally on the freeway.

curling - take these guys out on a twisty road and see how fast you leave them behind. there's a WORLD of difference between being able to "stunt" and being able to handle the curves.

Most of the sportbike riders around here that I ride with can hit the twisties and the wheelies with no problem. The same thing happens here every weekend when it is nice. There is a loop that starts in the downtown area, heads out to the country and back into downtown that we ride all the time. There is a good mix of straights and twists, so you get some stunting and some real riding in all the time. The bros in my area are all doing the full stand ups, rolling stoppies, rolling burnouts, two up wheelies (full gear though always with my group, no chickies in shorts and flip flops), two up rolling stoppies, etc. We were thinking about filming some of it for a website or something, but we never get around to it. This one dude in the group has an R6 and that guy can ride tank wheelies as long as he wants, literally. We watched him ride a tank wheelie for at least 7 miles on a weekend trip. The only reason he put it back down was because he was bored with it. It a fun sport, but make sure you wear your gear and that your bros do to. And remember not to be a jackass and pull shit like this in traffic. There is a time and a place. And regarding the insurance rates thing, well in my state, insurance is not required, so most of the sport bike riders don't carry any. If they drop their bikes, they pay out of pocket for it.

Thanks crak, yea I guess I shouldn't seel myself short. I remember one time I was riding with some friends in the hill country and I left them almost 2 miles behind me. When they finally caught up(seems like it took them forever) they said man, you are crazy I have never anybody accelorate on a downhill sharp turn.

curling....used to wheelie my gsx-R 750 all the time...havent gotten used to my 954 yet...Im standing up at speed to get used to the height and throttle control in that position...practicing in 2nd gear...tho- stand-ups are best done in 3rd on my bike....I wanted to get my shit together on this bike before I started any stunt riding...my rear tire is gone at 3100mi....so, no Iam not there yet....but i can take turns at 130-150 and leave most behind...but its not as cool as doing a stand-up wheelie at 100mph...period...soon.

PBR,

There was one dude sunday on a cbr that was doing a knee in the seat and left foot on the rear passenger peg doing 12 oclockers for 1/4 mile to a half mile each wheel stand. It looked so freak'n cool. I can't think of too many things that look cooler than that.

How long have you been riding?

I feel no need to do any of that shit on two wheels. Riding in traffic is dangerous enough nowadays, I don't need to make the odds worse on purpose. My Harley keeps both wheels on the ground at all times, and I'm proud of it.

I do admire the skill involved though.

got a few friends that can do the wheelies in 2nd gear on their 954s, but said doing in 3rd is harder to obtain..most do mountain runs or track racing in West Va...
