Hi all-

I am getting married on January 1. I just found out last weekend. (Long story, cultural thing.) Anyways, I DESPERATELY need to loose about 75lbs (I am 230 lbs). I want to get down to around 150-160 lbs. I swear I will do absolutely anything to make it happen thats legal.

PLEEASE PLEASE give me some advice. I am very desperate right now. I signed up for personal training 2 days a week (half hour each session with 30 minutes of cardio prior). I am also gonna join a gym, but I have no idea what I am doing.

I don't care how I lose it right now, I just need to lose it very very quickly.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME! I am desperate.

First off, congrats on getting married.

Second, people are going to need background before they tell you how to lose weight. What do you normally eat? Do you excercise? If so, how often? etc, etc.

Just post as much information like that, and people (myself included), will be able to give you some suggestions and ways to improve.

The answer is diet and cardio, and depending on where you're at, you can mold it to work for you. Cut out sodas, drink a lot of water, and go from there.

Congratulations, marriage is a wonderful thing.

As esurfer stated you will need to give some info.
For starters you will need to do cardio on an empty stomach.
The best time to do this would be in the morning for at least 45 minutes
every other day to start out with. Also you will need to watch your caloric intake. Drink lots of water as well as green tea. The water will help to suppress your appetite and green tea helps raise your metabolism.

Okay, here is me... thanks so much for the congratulations :) I am excited about my big day but I am equally concerned. (I know I should have just watched myself prior but there were always excuses before. I am really gonna try.)

Female, 5'8", 230 lbs, size 18/20 dress size, age 26.. I gained 52 lbs in one year (graduated from grad school, moved, new job, sedentary office job). Eat, I never eat breakfast althought I am trying to eat cereal (cheerios) now for one week. Lunch, I always just pick up food at the deli where I work (things like Chicken Parm, Eggplant Parm, Ziti, Lasagna w/ Garlic Bread). Dinner, its usually very light as my Lunch has me pretty full. I don't each much vegetables. I usually eat Indian food which is like rice (prolly 2 servings) and a chicken dish. I prolly eat a McDonalds double cheeseburger once a week. Drink about 32 ounces of water a day. I drink no soda, coffee or tea.

I do not exercise at all now. I pant if I were to run up a flight of steps. When people talk about running 5miles, I grimace cause I know it would take me 40 minutes to walk a mile and I would be very tired halfway through. I just signed up for the personal trainer which will begin next week. It will be 30 minutes of cardio followed by weight training. I really am starting to get scared about the wedding right now. I have to wear this ethnic outfit which shows my stomach, and my stomach is so flabby :(

Any suggestions? I have roughly 10 weeks.

Thanks, ash

You're gonna need to make a compromise here... 75lbs in 2 months is not gonna happen.

First start by making a goal you can achieve by Jan 1. A 20-30lb loss might be a good start...

THIS - ALL IT HAS GOT TO GO.
(except the water - double it to start)

Foods to eat: (standard list for me)

oatmeal
cream of wheat
potato
sweet potato/yams
rice brown/white
cottage cheese (this doesn't work for everyone)
all green veggies
peppers (red yellow)
chicken
fish
pork
lean beef
eggs
almonds, walnuts, pecans
peanut butter (this works for a lot of people)
avocado
olive oil (salads/ veggies)

Fruits - some people can diet with them some can't
berries
melon
apples
(I eat bananas and pineapple w/ my 1st meal even though the sugar content is high - but this works for me - doesn't work for many people)

In your case and your short period of time I would avoid the above in italics but keep it listed for after your wedding.

Meal one - 1/2 cup cream of wheat or oats with nuts, splenda & vanilla extract, or tbls peanut butter. 1-2 eggs (or 3 -4 egg whites w/ 1 yolk)

Meals 2-4/5 - roughly 4-6oz of protein (I eat mostly fish - cottage cheese is a good one for the no potato/rice meals), for 2 of those meals either 1/2 potato or a real small one or 1/2 cup of rice (white or brown) and for all meals as much salad or green veggies as you want.

Good snacks - avocado and almonds, OR eat some of either with your meals, it's a good source of fat.

For now, eat some almonds (say 10 of them per day) hold off on the avocado right now.

You will eat a morning meal no matter what after you have a 20 minute walk in the morning right after you wake up. The second week you'll walk 30 minutes, 5 min warm up, 20 min a tad more brisky and the another 5 like the warm up. 3 days the first week, 5 days the second and following weeks.

The 1st week will be the worst day of your life, you'll probably be hungry, have cravings and headaches. When in doubt, chug down some ice cold water and see how you feel in 5 minutes.

Cook all your at work meals in advance and take them with you in ziplock bags or tupperware - not having your meals ready will give you an excuse to eat something you shouldn't.

One more thought - it you mess up and eat something not appropriate DO NOT toss the day and keep eating the wrong foods - continue the day as if nothing happen. If you ate A LOT of food - adjust the remaining meals accordingly.

If you are truly committed and want to crash, keep it reasonable or you will look really bad because your skin will be saggy. You simply cannot lose 75lbs in 2 months without looking terrible.

But you could lose 25-30...

It is with reluctance that I say this because it is soooo nasty to me as a tuna hater, but, a professional dancer I knew let me in on a "tip of the trade." If you need to cut weight fast: Tuna (plain, no mayo, no nothing), steamed veggies, and water for one week - thats it... nothing else and NO cheating. It is nasty to be sure but you said you are committed. This is a test of your commitment. Try it for a week and report back your loss.

Oh, and of course exercise -- start by walking.
