Wax, shave or Nair, and how long before comp.??

Hello ladies - please help on this one. Does it make any difference whether you wax, shave or use nair before a competition? And, uh, if you wax, how the hell do you do your whole body? Are you meant to do your whole body? For that matter, how do you nair or shave your whole body!?

How many days out do you remove hair?

I have very nice fine, golden, almost non-existent hair (well, body hair, the other is a bit tougher, lol) which takes a long time to grow. This affects one's decision about how many days out to do it, right?

Plese post whatever you know.:)

Let me add a question here. Are there any ways to minimize the pain from waxing those sensitive spots? I think someone joked about using anbesol on a thread about brazilian bikini waxing. For real though, can anything be done? Any creams that cause temporary numbness?

If you are not used to waxing, then it's a bad idea to try it just before a competition. Either start waxing now to see how your body responds, or go with shaving. There's nothing worse than having an infected/ingrown pustle hanging off of your bikini line during pre-judging! Depilatories should also be tested well before the competition since many women have a rash or reaction to these too. If you don't cut yourself, shaving is prolly the safest bet unless you know you tolerate other methods of hair removal.

How much of your body you depilate entirely depends on hair coarseness and color. Most women get away with just legs, bikini line and armpits.

Thanks MS! I quit waxing when I came to Japan, because, like everything else here, it costs an arm and a leg. I use depilatory cream once every month or 2 (or 3) on my legs and bikini line. I guess I was just wondering if there is any "best" method.

So, ideally, one should do it long enough before the comp. for any new growth pimples or skin irritation to heal, but not so long that new hair is visible? Do people try to go into the comp. absolutely smooth, or does it matter if there's a tiny bit of growth? Just wondering ... I mean, can the judges SEE if there's 1/4 or 1/2 mil growth? OK, I know that sounds like a stupid question, but I've never been on on a bodybuilding stage, or in a judge's seat!

VLC - sorry, don't know - I have heard of local anaesthetic lotions, for wounds, but you're supposed to clean off all lotions before a wax, so .... You could try getting drunk - I did that before I got my tattoos done! (LOL - no, don't do that - it brings the blood to the skin and hurts more!)

A little bit of short, pale regrowth will not be noticeable if you've got a nice dark tan.
